Chapter 1

Total Verses: 286

بِسْمِ اللّهِ الرَّحْمـَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi

(I) Begin with the Name of Allâh WHO is Most Loving and Most Merciful

                     الم

1.                Alif-Lâm-Mîm (Aliflâmmîm -- these letters are called prefixes, muqatta’at, only Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala, Knows the real meanings).

                    ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

2.                Thalika alkitabu la rayba feehi hudan lilmuttaqeena
This (Al-Qur'ân) is the Book of Allâh there is no doubt about it.  It is a guidance for the people who fear Allâh (subhaana wa ta’aala) (Al-Muttaqûn)

                     الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْغَيْبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ الصَّلاةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ

3.                Allatheena yuminoona bialghaybi wayuqeemoona alssalata wamimma razaqnahum yunfiqoona
Who bring Faith in an unseen (Ghaib), establish prayer (As-Salât), the provisions WE (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) have given them, (they) spend from it,

                والَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ مِن قَبْلِكَ وَبِالآخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ

4.                Waallatheena yuminoona bima onzila ilayka wama onzila min qablika wabialakhirati hum yooqinoona
The Book (Al-Qur'ân) which has been revealed to you (Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the Books which were sent down before you (they) bring Faith in all of those, and have Faith on the Day of Judgment.

                أُوْلَـئِكَ عَلَى هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

5.                Olaika AAala hudan min rabbihim waolaika humu almuflihoona
Such people are on the Straight Path from their Râbb and they are going to be successful.

                إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَاءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تُنذِرْهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ

6.                Inna allatheena kafaroo sawaon AAalayhim aanthartahum am lam tunthirhum la yuminoona
Those people who denied (to accept the message), it is similar for them, whether you warn them or not, however they are not going to accept.

                خَتَمَ اللّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهمْ وَعَلَى سَمْعِهِمْ وَعَلَى أَبْصَارِهِمْ غِشَاوَةٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عظِيمٌ

7.                Khatama Allahu AAala quloobihim waAAala samAAihim waAAala absarihim ghishawatun walahum AAathabun AAatheemun
Allâh has set a seal on their hearts and ears and there is a covering on their eyes. They deserve severe punishment. (R) 1

                وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَبِالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

8.                Wamina alnnasi man yaqoolu amanna biAllahi wabialyawmi alakhiri wama hum bimumineena
There are some such people who say, "we have brought Faith in Allâh and the Last Day", whereas in fact they are not the believers.

                يُخَادِعُونَ اللّهَ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَمَا يَخْدَعُونَ إِلاَّ أَنفُسَهُم وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

9.                YukhadiAAoona Allaha waallatheena amanoo wama yakhdaAAoona illa anfusahum wama yashAAuroona
They (think that they) are deceiving Allâh and the believers, but in fact they are only deceiving themselves and they do not have sense of it.

                فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ فَزَادَهُمُ اللّهُ مَرَضاً وَلَهُم عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْذِبُونَ

10.            Fee quloobihim maradun fazadahumu Allahu maradan walahum AAathabun aleemun bima kanoo yakthiboona
There is a disease in their hearts, Allâh has increased it more, and the lie they speak, in compensation to that there is severe punishment for them.

                وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لاَ تُفْسِدُواْ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالُواْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُصْلِحُونَ

11.            Waitha qeela lahum la tufsidoo fee alardi qaloo innama nahnu muslihoona
Whenever it is said to them that do not make mischief on the earth, they only said: "We are the reformers"--

            أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْمُفْسِدُونَ وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَشْعُرُونَ

12.            Ala innahum humu almufsidoona walakin la yashAAuroona
Beware, in fact these people are the mischief-makers but they do not have sense.

            وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ كَمَا آمَنَ النَّاسُ قَالُواْ أَنُؤْمِنُ كَمَا آمَنَ السُّفَهَاء أَلا إِنَّهُمْ هُمُ

             السُّفَهَاء وَلَـكِن لاَّ يَعْلَمُونَ

13.            Waitha qeela lahum aminoo kama amana alnnasu qaloo anuminu kama amana alssufahao ala innahum humu alssufahao walakin la yaAAlamoona
And when it was said to them that bring Faith as other people have brought Faith then they only replied: "Shall we bring Faith like the fools”? -- Beware, in fact they are the fools, but they do not know.

            وَإِذَا لَقُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَالُواْ آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوْاْ إِلَى شَيَاطِينِهِمْ قَالُواْ إِنَّا مَعَكْمْ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ مُسْتَهْزِؤُونَ

14.            Waitha laqoo allatheena amanoo qaloo amanna waitha khalaw ila shayateenihim qaloo inna maAAakum innama nahnu mustahzioona
When they meet with the believers, they say: “We have brought Faith”, and when they meet with their Satans (Shayâtin) in an isolation, they say: “In fact we are with you and (we) are just joking with those people”--

            اللّهُ يَسْتَهْزِىءُ بِهِمْ وَيَمُدُّهُمْ فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

15.            Allahu yastahzio bihim wayamudduhum fee tughyanihim yaAAmahoona

            Allâh is mocking at them, HE has been extending their rope and they have been blindly wandering in their disobedience.

            أُوْلَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرُوُاْ الضَّلاَلَةَ بِالْهُدَى فَمَا رَبِحَت تِّجَارَتُهُمْ وَمَا كَانُواْ مُهْتَدِينَ

16.            Olaika allatheena ishtarawoo alddalalata bialhuda fama rabihat tijaratuhum wama kanoo muhtadeena
These are those people, who have traded in guidance for an error, but this trade is not profitable for them and they are not on the Right Path at all.

            مَثَلُهُمْ كَمَثَلِ الَّذِي اسْتَوْقَدَ نَاراً فَلَمَّا أَضَاءتْ مَا حَوْلَهُ ذَهَبَ اللّهُ بِنُورِهِمْ وَتَرَكَهُمْ

             فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ لاَّ يُبْصِرُونَ

17.            Mathaluhum kamathali allathee istawqada naran falamma adaat ma hawlahu thahaba Allahu binoorihim watarakahum fee thulumatin la yubsiroona
Their example is like a person who ignited fire and when it brightened all the area then Allâh took away their eyesight and left them in such a situation that they cannot see anything in the darkness.

            صُمٌّ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لاَ يَرْجِعُونَ

18.            Summun bukmun AAumyun fahum la yarjiAAoona
They are deaf, dumb, blind, now they will not come back (to the Right Path).

            أَوْ كَصَيِّبٍ مِّنَ السَّمَاء فِيهِ ظُلُمَاتٌ وَرَعْدٌ وَبَرْقٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصْابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِم

مِّنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ واللّهُ مُحِيطٌ بِالْكافِرِينَ

19.            Aw kasayyibin mina alssamai feehi thulumatun waraAAdun wabarqun yajAAaloona asabiAAahum fee athanihim mina alssawaAAiqi hathara almawti waAllahu muheetun bialkafireena
Or either understand their example, as it is raining heavily from the sky and with it there is a pitch darkness and thunder and as well as lightning, hearing the stroke of lightning they thrust their fingers in their ears for fear of their lives and Allâh has encircled these deniers of truth from all sides.

            يَكَادُ الْبَرْقُ يَخْطَفُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ كُلَّمَا أَضَاء لَهُم مَّشَوْاْ فِيهِ وَإِذَا أَظْلَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ قَامُواْ

            وَلَوْ شَاء اللّهُ لَذَهَبَ بِسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَارِهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّه عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

20.            Yakadu albarqu yakhtafu absarahum kullama adaa lahum mashaw feehi waitha athlama AAalayhim qamoo walaw shaa Allahu lathahaba bisamAAihim waabsarihim inna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun
Because of the lightning their condition is such as if the lightning will soon snatch away their eyesight. When they feel a flash of light -- they walk a little further in it and when darkness covers them then they stand still--(if) Allâh wanted then (HE) could have totally taken away their hearing and sight, certainly, HE is Omnipotent. (R) 2

            يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اعْبُدُواْ رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

21.            Ya ayyuha alnnasu oAAbudoo rabbakumu allathee khalaqakum waallatheena min qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoona
O people, obey your Râbb WHO is your creator and of those who have passed away before you, it is hoped your salvation could be in this way. 

            الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الأَرْضَ فِرَاشاً وَالسَّمَاء بِنَاء وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاء مَاء فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِ

             مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ رِزْقاً لَّكُمْ فَلاَ تَجْعَلُواْ لِلّهِ أَندَاداً وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

22.            Allathee jaAAala lakumu alarda firashan waalssamaa binaan waanzala mina alssamai maan faakhraja bihi mina alththamarati rizqan lakum fala tajAAaloo lillahi andadan waantum taAAlamoona
HE is the One WHO has spread-out floor of earth for you, made sky a roof, showered water from above and by it grew all types of produces and provided provisions for you.  Therefore, when you know this then do not take others alike Allâh.

            وَإِن كُنتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِّمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُواْ بِسُورَةٍ مِّن مِّثْلِهِ وَادْعُواْ شُهَدَاءكُم

             مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

23.            Wain kuntum fee raybin mimma nazzalna AAala AAabdina fatoo bisooratin min mithlihi waodAAoo shuhadaakum min dooni Allahi in kuntum sadiqeena
And if you have doubt about it that the Book (Al-Qur'ân) which WE have revealed to OUR Subservient (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), is from US or not, then create only one Sûrah (Chapter) like it, call all your associates, except One Allâh get the help from whomever you want, if you are truthful then do it.

            فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُواْ وَلَن تَفْعَلُواْ فَاتَّقُواْ النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ أُعِدَّتْ

 لِلْكَافِرِينَ

24.            Fain lam tafAAaloo walan tafAAaloo faittaqoo alnnara allatee waqooduha alnnasu waalhijaratu oAAiddat lilkafireena
But if you could not do so, and surely (you) can never do so, then fear from the fire, whose fuel will be human beings and stones, which has been prepared for the deniers of the truth.

            وَبَشِّرِ الَّذِين آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الأَنْهَارُ

             كُلَّمَا رُزِقُواْ مِنْهَا مِن ثَمَرَةٍ رِّزْقاً قَالُواْ هَـذَا الَّذِي رُزِقْنَا مِن قَبْلُ وَأُتُواْ بِهِ مُتَشَابِهاً وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا أَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَهُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

25.            Wabashshiri allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati anna lahum jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu kullama ruziqoo minha min thamaratin rizqan qaloo hatha allathee ruziqna min qablu waotoo bihi mutashabihan walahum feeha azwajun mutahharatun wahum feeha khalidoona
And O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), those people who bring Faith in this Book (Al-Qur'ân) and correct their deeds (according to this Book), give them good news that for them there are such gardens underneath which canals will be flowing.  The fruits of those gardens will resemble the fruits of this world.  When any fruit will be given to them to eat, they will say that such fruits had been given to us before it in the world.  There will be chaste spouses for them, and they will remain there forever.

             إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَسْتَحْيِي أَن يَضْرِبَ مَثَلاً مَّا بَعُوضَةً فَمَا فَوْقَهَا فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ فَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَيَقُولُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَـذَا مَثَلاً يُضِلُّ بِهِ  كَثِيراً وَيَهْدِي بِهِ كَثِيراً وَمَا يُضِلُّ بِهِ إِلاَّ الْفَاسِقِينَ

26.            Inna Allaha la yastahyee an yadriba mathalan ma baAAoodatan fama fawqaha faamma allatheena amanoo fayaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim waamma allatheena kafaroo fayaqooloona matha arada Allahu bihatha mathalan yudillu bihi katheeran wayahdee bihi katheeran wama yudillu bihi illa alfasiqeena
Yes, Allâh is not shy at all to give an example of a mosquito or something even inferior than it.  Those people who are going to accept the truth, they know by seeing such examples that this is the Truth which has come from their Râbb, and those who are not going to accept, they say after hearing these (examples) that what Allâh has to do with such examples?   In this way with the same thing Allâh leads many astray and shows the Straight Path to many.  And from it Allâh misleads only those who are deceivers/hypocrites,

الَّذِينَ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَ اللَّهِ مِن بَعْدِ مِيثَاقِهِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَن يُوصَلَ

 وَيُفْسِدُونَ فِي الأَرْضِ أُولَـئِكَ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

27.            Allatheena yanqudoona AAahda Allahi min baAAdi meethaqihi wayaqtaAAoona ma amara Allahu bihi an yoosala wayufsidoona fee alardi olaika humu alkhasiroona
They break the promise of Allâh after endorsement, and what Allâh has ordered to unite they cut it apart, and create mischief on the earth.  In fact these are the people who are going to suffer the losses.

كَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَكُنتُمْ أَمْوَاتاً فَأَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

28.            Kayfa takfuroona biAllahi wakuntum amwatan faahyakum thumma yumeetukum thumma yuhyeekum thumma ilayhi turjaAAoona
How do you adopt an attitude of infidelity (Kufr) with Allâh?  Whereas you were lifeless, HE (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) gave you life, then HE will take away your life, then HE will again give you life, then you have to return to HIM.

هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعاً ثُمَّ اسْتَوَى إِلَى السَّمَاء فَسَوَّاهُنَّ سَبْعَ

 سَمَاوَاتٍ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

29.            Huwa allathee khalaqa lakum ma fee alardi jameeAAan thumma istawa ila alssamai fasawwahunna sabAAa samawatin wahuwa bikulli shayin AAaleemun
HE (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) is the One WHO created for you all that is on the earth, then paid attention towards the above and made seven skies.  And HE (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) has the knowledge of everything. (R)3

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً قَالُواْ أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ

فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاء وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ

30.            Waith qala rabbuka lilmalaikati innee jaAAilun fee alardi khaleefatan qaloo atajAAalu feeha man yufsidu feeha wayasfiku alddimaa wanahnu nusabbihu bihamdika wanuqaddisu laka qala innee aAAlamu ma la taAAlamoona
Then just think about that time when your Râbb said to the angels: "I AM going to place a caliph (vicegerent) on the earth”.  They submitted: "Are YOU going to place such ones on the earth who will distort its arrangement and will shed blood?  We are already glorifying YOUR Praise with hymn and homage”.  (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) Said: “I know, what you do not know”. 

            وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الأَسْمَاء كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى الْمَلاَئِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنبِئُونِي بِأَسْمَاء هَـؤُلاء

            إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

31.            WaAAallama adama alasmaa kullaha thumma AAaradahum AAala almalaikati faqala anbioonee biasmai haolai in kuntum sadiqeena
After this Allâh taught Adam the names of all things, then presented them (those things) before the angels and said: "If you are right in your idea (that by appointing a caliph will cause disorder on the earth), then just tell the names of these things”.

            قَالُواْ سُبْحَانَكَ لاَ عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلاَّ مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ

32.            Qaloo subhanaka la AAilma lana illa ma AAallamtana innaka anta alAAaleemu alhakeemu
They replied: “YOU Alone are free from all defects, we only possess that much knowledge what YOU have given to us.  In fact there is none except YOU who Knows and Understands everything”. 

قَالَ يَا آدَمُ أَنبِئْهُم بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ فَلَمَّا أَنبَأَهُمْ بِأَسْمَآئِهِمْ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ

33.            Qala ya adamu anbihum biasmaihim falamma anbaahum biasmaihim qala alam aqul lakum innee aAAlamu ghayba alssamawati waalardi waaAAlamu ma tubdoona wama kuntum taktumoona
Then Allâh said to Adam: “You tell them the names of these things”.  When he (Adam) told them the names of all those things, then Allâh said: “Did I not tell you that I know all the facts of the skies and the earth, which are hidden from you, whatever you proclaim, I know it and I also know what you hide”.

            وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلاَئِكَةِ اسْجُدُواْ لآدَمَ فَسَجَدُواْ إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَى وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ

34.            Waith qulna lilmalaikati osjudoo liadama fasajadoo illa ibleesa aba waistakbara wakana mina alkafireena
And when WE commanded angels that bow down before Adam then all bowed down -- but Iblîs (Satan) refused.  He showed arrogance of his greatness and joined the disobedients.

            وَقُلْنَا يَا آدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَكُلاَ مِنْهَا رَغَداً حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلاَ تَقْرَبَا

هَـذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ الْظَّالِمِينَ

35.            Waqulna ya adamu oskun anta wazawjuka aljannata wakula minha raghadan haythu shituma wala taqraba hathihi alshshajarata fatakoona mina alththalimeena
Then WE said to Adam: "You and your wife, both live in the Paradise and eat freely whatever you want, but do not go near that tree, otherwise would be included with wrongdoers”.

            فَأَزَلَّهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ وَقُلْنَا اهْبِطُواْ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ

            عَدُوٌّ وَلَكُمْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَى حِينٍ

36.            Faazallahuma alshshaytanu AAanha faakhrajahuma mimma kana feehi waqulna ihbitoo baAAdukum libaAAdin AAaduwwun walakum fee alardi mustaqarrun wamataAAun ila heenin
Eventually, Satan tempted both of them for that tree and made them to disobey OUR command and got them expelled from that state in which they were.  WE commanded: “Now you all go down from here, you are enemies of one another and you have to stay and reside on the earth for an appointed term”. 

            فَتَلَقَّى آدَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِ كَلِمَاتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

37.            Fatalaqqa adamu min rabbihi kalimatin fataba AAalayhi innahu huwa alttawwabu alrraheemu
At that time Adam learned a few words from his Râbb and repented, which his Râbb accepted, because HE is most Forgiving and Loving. 

            قُلْنَا اهْبِطُواْ مِنْهَا جَمِيعاً فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّي هُدًى فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ

            وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

38.            Qulna ihbitoo minha jameeAAan faimma yatiyannakum minnee hudan faman tabiAAa hudaya fala khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona
WE said: "You all go down from here.  And whatever guidance comes to you from ME, then those people who will follow the guidance, there shall be no fear or grieve for them,

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرواْ وَكَذَّبُواْ بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَـئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

39.            Waallatheena kafaroo wakaththaboo biayatina olaika ashabu alnnari hum feeha khalidoona
And those who will refuse to embrace it and will deny OUR Revelations; they are the ones who have to go to the fire, where they will live forever”. (R) 4

يَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَوْفُواْ بِعَهْدِي أُوفِ بِعَهْدِكُمْ

وَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ

40.            Ya banee israeela othkuroo niAAmatiya allatee anAAamtu AAalaykum waawfoo biAAahdee oofi biAAahdikum waiyyaya fairhabooni
O Children of Israel, just remember MY blessings, which I granted you.  You fulfill your promise with ME then I fulfill the promise I had with you, and you only fear ME. 

وَآمِنُواْ بِمَا أَنزَلْتُ مُصَدِّقاً لِّمَا مَعَكُمْ وَلاَ تَكُونُواْ أَوَّلَ كَافِرٍ بِهِ وَلاَ تَشْتَرُواْ بِآيَاتِي

 ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً وَإِيَّايَ فَاتَّقُونِ

41.            Waaminoo bima anzaltu musaddiqan lima maAAakum wala takoonoo awwala kafirin bihi wala tashtaroo biayatee thamanan qaleelan waiyyaya faittaqooni
And bring Faith in the Book (Al-Qur'ân) that I have sent down.  This is in confirmation of the Book which you already possessed; therefore you should not be the first to deny it.  Do not trade MY Revelation (Ayât) for a little price and avoid MY anger.

وَلاَ تَلْبِسُواْ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُواْ الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

42.            Wala talbisoo alhaqqa bialbatili wataktumoo alhaqqa waantum taAAlamoona
Do not make truth doubtful by coloring with falsehood and nor try to hide the truth knowingly.

وَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُواْ الزَّكَاةَ وَارْكَعُواْ مَعَ الرَّاكِعِينَ

43.            Waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata wairkaAAoo maAAa alrrakiAAeena
Establish prayer (Salât), pay the poor-dues (Zakât), and bow down along with those who are bowing down (Ar-­Raki'ûn) before ME. 

أَتَأْمُرُونَ النَّاسَ بِالْبِرِّ وَتَنسَوْنَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ

44.            Atamuroona alnnasa bialbirri watansawna anfusakum waantum tatloona alkitaba afala taAAqiloona
You urge others to adopt the righteous path -- but you forget yourselves.  Whereas you recite the Book.  Do you not use your common sense at all? 

وَاسْتَعِينُواْ بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلاَةِ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلاَّ عَلَى الْخَاشِعِينَ

45.            WaistaAAeenoo bialssabri waalssalati wainnaha lakabeeratun illa AAala alkhashiAAeena
Seek help with patience and prayer (Salât), no doubt prayer (Salât), is an extremely hard task -- but it is not difficult for the obedient servants

الَّذِينَ يَظُنُّونَ أَنَّهُم مُّلاَقُو رَبِّهِمْ وَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

46.            Allatheena yathunnoona annahum mulaqoo rabbihim waannahum ilayhi rajiAAoona
Who understand that ultimately they have to meet with their Râbb and have to return to HIM. (R) 5

يَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ

47.            Ya banee israeela othkuroo niAAmatiya allatee anAAamtu AAalaykum waannee faddaltukum AAala alAAalameena
O Children of Israel, remember MY favor that I granted you and recall that I had chosen you over all other nations of the world. 

وَاتَّقُواْ يَوْماً لاَّ تَجْزِي نَفْسٌ عَن نَّفْسٍ شَيْئاً وَلاَ يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا شَفَاعَةٌ وَلاَ يُؤْخَذُ مِنْهَا

عَدْلٌ وَلاَ هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

48.            Waittaqoo yawman la tajzee nafsun AAan nafsin shayan wala yuqbalu minha shafaAAatun wala yukhathu minha AAadlun wala hum yunsaroona
And fear the Day when no one would benefit anyone, neither any intercession would be accepted from anyone, nor anyone would be set free for ransom, and nor the criminals would get help from anywhere.

وَإِذْ نَجَّيْنَاكُم مِّنْ آلِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوَءَ الْعَذَابِ يُذَبِّحُونَ أَبْنَاءكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ

 نِسَاءكُمْ وَفِي ذَلِكُم بَلاء مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ

49.            Waith najjaynakum min ali firAAawna yasoomoonakum sooa alAAathabi yuthabbihoona abnaakum wayastahyoona nisaakum wafee thalikum balaon min rabbikum AAatheemun
Remember the time, when WE liberated you from the slavery of Fir'aun’s people--they had put you in a horrible suffering, (they) used to kill your sons and let your daughters to live and in this situation you had a difficult test from your Râbb.

وَإِذْ فَرَقْنَا بِكُمُ الْبَحْرَ فَأَنجَيْنَاكُمْ وَأَغْرَقْنَا آلَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ

50.            Waith faraqna bikumu albahra faanjaynakum waaghraqna ala firAAawna waantum tanthuroona
Remember the time, when WE divided the sea and made a path for you, then let you pass from it safely, then drowned the Fir'aun’s people right there in front of your eyes.

وَإِذْ وَاعَدْنَا مُوسَى أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ الْعِجْلَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَنتُمْ ظَالِمُونَ

51.            Waith waAAadna moosa arbaAAeena laylatan thumma ittakhathtumu alAAijla min baAAdihi waantum thalimoona
Remember, when WE invited Mûsa for forty nights and days meeting, then in his (Musa’s) absence you took the calf as your deity (for worship).  At that time you had committed a terrible sin,

ثُمَّ عَفَوْنَا عَنكُمِ مِّن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

52.            Thumma AAafawna AAankum min baAAdi thalika laAAallakum tashkuroona
But even then WE forgave you -- perhaps you might now become grateful.

وَإِذْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَالْفُرْقَانَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ

53.            Waith atayna moosa alkitaba waalfurqana laAAallakum tahtadoona
Remember (right at that time when you were doing this cruelty) that WE gave Mûsa the Scripture (Taurât) and the criteria so that you could seek the straight path with it.

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ يَا قَوْمِ إِنَّكُمْ ظَلَمْتُمْ أَنفُسَكُمْ بِاتِّخَاذِكُمُ الْعِجْلَ فَتُوبُواْ إِلَى بَارِئِكُمْ فَاقْتُلُواْ أَنفُسَكُمْ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِندَ بَارِئِكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

54.            Waith qala moosa liqawmihi ya qawmi innakum thalamtum anfusakum biittikhathikumu alAAijla fatooboo ila bariikum faoqtuloo anfusakum thalikum khayrun lakum AAinda bariikum fataba AAalaykum innahu huwa alttawwabu alrraheemu
Remember when Mûsa (returned with this blessing and he) said to his nation: "O people! You have done a great cruelty on your souls by taking calf as (your) deity, therefore you should turn in repentance to your Creator and slay yourselves; your welfare is in it; in the sight of your Creator”.   At that time your Creator accepted your repentance, because HE is Most Forgiving and Loving.

وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسَى لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّى نَرَى اللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ الصَّاعِقَةُ وَأَنتُمْ

 تَنظُرُونَ

55.            Waith qultum ya moosa lan numina laka hatta nara Allaha jahratan faakhathatkumu alssaAAiqatu waantum tanthuroona
Remember when you said to Mûsa that we would never believe in what you say until we openly see Allâh (talking to you) with our own eyes.  At that very moment while you were looking a lightning hit you.  You had fallen lifeless,

ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَاكُم مِّن بَعْدِ مَوْتِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

56.            Thumma baAAathnakum min baAAdi mawtikum laAAallakum tashkuroona
But then WE raised you up; perhaps after this kindness you may become thankful.

وَظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ الْغَمَامَ وَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمُ الْمَنَّ وَالسَّلْوَى كُلُواْ مِن طَيِّبَاتِ مَا رَزَقْنَاكُمْ

وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَـكِن كَانُواْ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

57.            Wathallalna AAalaykumu alghamama waanzalna AAalaykumu almanna waalssalwa kuloo min tayyibati ma razaqnakum wama thalamoona walakin kanoo anfusahum yathlimoona
WE shadowed with cloud over you, provided you food of manna-u-salwa and told you that whatever lawful things WE have provided you, eat them, (but whatever your forefather did) that was no harm to US, but they did harm to themselves.

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا ادْخُلُواْ هَـذِهِ الْقَرْيَةَ فَكُلُواْ مِنْهَا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمْ رَغَداً وَادْخُلُواْ الْبَابَ سُجَّداً

وَقُولُواْ حِطَّةٌ نَّغْفِرْ لَكُمْ خَطَايَاكُمْ وَسَنَزِيدُ الْمُحْسِنِينَ

58.            Waith qulna odkhuloo hathihi alqaryata fakuloo minha haythu shitum raghadan waodkhuloo albaba sujjadan waqooloo hittatun naghfir lakum khatayakum wasanazeedu almuhsineena
Remember again when WE said: "Enter into this town (which is in front of you), eat its produce freely, as you want, but bow down in the gate while entering in this town and keep saying; Hittatun, Hittatun (Repentance, Forgiveness), WE shall forgive your sins and will reward the righteous with OUR great Kindness”. 

فَبَدَّلَ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ قَوْلاً غَيْرَ الَّذِي قِيلَ لَهُمْ فَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ رِجْزاً مِّنَ

السَّمَاء بِمَا كَانُواْ يَفْسُقُونَ

59.            Fabaddala allatheena thalamoo qawlan ghayra allathee qeela lahum faanzalna AAala allatheena thalamoo rijzan mina alssamai bima kanoo yafsuqoona
But what had been said to them, the cruel people changed that to something different. Eventually WE sent down misery from the sky on the evildoers.  This was the punishment for their disobedience that they were doing. (R) 6

وَإِذِ اسْتَسْقَى مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ فَقُلْنَا اضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ الْحَجَرَ فَانفَجَرَتْ مِنْهُ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْناً قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ كُلُواْ وَاشْرَبُواْ مِن رِّزْقِ اللَّهِ وَلاَ تَعْثَوْاْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ

60.            Waithi istasqa moosa liqawmihi faqulna idrib biAAasaka alhajara fainfajarat minhu ithnata AAashrata AAaynan qad AAalima kullu onasin mashrabahum kuloo waishraboo min rizqi Allahi wala taAAthaw fee alardi mufsideena
Remember, when Mûsa prayed for water for his people then WE said,  “Strike your staff on that Rock”.  Consequently twelve fountains sprang out from it and each tribe learned that which place is for them to get water.  (At that time the guidance had been given that) Eat and drink from that which Allâh has given, and do not keep spreading mischief on the earth.

وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَا مُوسَى لَن نَّصْبِرَ عَلَىَ طَعَامٍ وَاحِدٍ فَادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُخْرِجْ لَنَا مِمَّا تُنبِتُ الأَرْضُ مِن بَقْلِهَا وَقِثَّآئِهَا وَفُومِهَا وَعَدَسِهَا وَبَصَلِهَا قَالَ أَتَسْتَبْدِلُونَ الَّذِي هُوَ أَدْنَى بِالَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ اهْبِطُواْ مِصْراً فَإِنَّ لَكُم مَّا سَأَلْتُمْ وَضُرِبَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الذِّلَّةُ وَالْمَسْكَنَةُ وَبَآؤُوْاْ بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُواْ يَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَيَقْتُلُونَ النَّبِيِّينَ بِغَيْرالْحَقِّ ذَلِكَ بِمَا عَصَواْ وَّكَانُواْ يَعْتَدُونَ

61.            Waith qultum ya moosa lan nasbira AAala taAAamin wahidin faodAAu lana rabbaka yukhrij lana mimma tunbitu alardu min baqliha waqiththaiha wafoomiha waAAadasiha wabasaliha qala atastabdiloona allathee huwa adna biallathee huwa khayrun ihbitoo misran fainna lakum ma saaltum waduribat AAalayhimu alththillatu waalmaskanatu wabaoo bighadabin mina Allahi thalika biannahum kanoo yakfuroona biayati Allahi wayaqtuloona alnnabiyyeena bighayri alhaqqi thalika bima AAasaw wakanoo yaAAtadoona
Remember, when you said, "O Mûsa, we cannot live on one kind of food.  Pray to your Râbb that (HE) should grow for us the produce of the earth -- green herbs, vegetables, cucumbers, wheat, garlic, onions, pulses (lentils), etc."  Mûsa replied: "Do you want to get the inferior things in place of superior things?  Well, go and live in any town. You will get there whatever you want."  Finally, the time came where the disgrace, humiliation and helplessness and misery prevailed over them and the Wrath of Allâh surrounded them.  This was the result because they began to reject the Revelation of Allâh and start slaying the Prophets without any Justification.  This was the result of their disobedience and that they were violating the limits of the Scripture. (R) 7

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَالَّذِينَ هَادُواْ وَالنَّصَارَى وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحاً فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

62.            Inna allatheena amanoo waallatheena hadoo waalnnasara waalssabieena man amana biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri waAAamila salihan falahum ajruhum AAinda rabbihim wala khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona
Believe it, that either those who believe in Arabian Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) or the Jews, the Christians or the Sabians, whoever will bring Faith in Allâh and the Last Day and will do good deeds, his/her reward is with his/her Râbb and there is no fear and grieve for him/her.

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطُّورَ خُذُواْ مَا آتَيْنَاكُم بِقُوَّةٍ وَاذْكُرُواْ مَا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

63.            Waith akhathna meethaqakum warafaAAna fawqakumu alttoora khuthoo ma ataynakum biquwwatin waothkuroo ma feehi laAAallakum tattaqoona
Recall the time, when WE took a firm pledge from you by raising Tur (Mountain) above you and had said: "The Scripture WE are giving you hold it firm and remember the commands and guidance which are written in it.  In this way it is hoped that you will be able to adopt the path of piety (Al-Muttaqûn)”. 

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُم مِّن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ فَلَوْلاَ فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لَكُنتُم مِّنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

64.            Thumma tawallaytum min baAAdi thalika falawla fadlu Allahi AAalaykum warahmatuhu lakuntum mina alkhasireena
But after this you turned away from your pledge.  Even then Allâh did not hold back HIS Grace and Mercy from you, otherwise you would have been destroyed long before it.

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ الَّذِينَ اعْتَدَواْ مِنكُمْ فِي السَّبْتِ فَقُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُواْ قِرَدَةً خَاسِئِينَ

65.            Walaqad AAalimtumu allatheena iAAtadaw minkum fee alssabti faqulna lahum koonoo qiradatan khasieena
Then you know the story of those people of your nation who had broken the law of Sabbath (prohibition of working on Saturday).  WE said to them, become apes/monkeys and remain in this state that you are dishonored and cursed from all around. 

فَجَعَلْنَاهَا نَكَالاً لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهَا وَمَا خَلْفَهَا وَمَوْعِظَةً لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

66.            FajaAAalnaha nakalan lima bayna yadayha wama khalfaha wamawAAithatan lilmuttaqeena
In this way WE made their end a warning for the people of that time and the following generations and an advice for those who fear Allâh (Al-Muttaqûn).

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَى لِقَوْمِهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَنْ تَذْبَحُواْ بَقَرَةً قَالُواْ أَتَتَّخِذُنَا هُزُواً قَالَ

أَعُوذُ بِاللّهِ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنَ الْجَاهِلِينَ

67.            Waith qala moosa liqawmihi inna Allaha yamurukum an tathbahoo baqaratan qaloo atattakhithuna huzuwan qala aAAoothu biAllahi an akoona mina aljahileena
Then remember the event, when Mûsa said to his nation that Allâh commands you to sacrifice a cow.  (They) Started saying are you joking with us? Mûsa replied, “I seek Refuge with Allâh from it that I talk like illiterates (Al-Jâhilûn)”. 

قَالُواْ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لّنَا مَا هِيَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لاَّ فَارِضٌ وَلاَ بِكْرٌ

عَوَانٌ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ فَافْعَلُواْ مَا تُؤْمَرونَ

68.            Qaloo odAAu lana rabbaka yubayyin lana ma hiya qala innahu yaqoolu innaha baqaratun la faridun wala bikrun AAawanun bayna thalika faifAAaloo ma tumaroona
They said well, request to your Râbb that HE should give us some details of this cow.  Mûsa said, “Allâh Says this cow should be neither old nor young, but of a middle age”.  Therefore what has been commanded obey it. 

قَالُواْ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا لَوْنُهَا قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ إِنّهَا بَقَرَةٌ صَفْرَاء فَاقِـعٌ لَّوْنُهَا

تَسُرُّ النَّاظِرِينَ

69.            Qaloo odAAu lana rabbaka yubayyin lana ma lawnuha qala innahu yaqoolu innaha baqaratun safrao faqiAAun lawnuha tasurru alnnathireena
(They) Again start saying, “Ask this much more from your Râbb, what color she should be”?  Mûsa responded: “HE says that the cow should be of golden/yellow color whose color should be so bright that it should give pleasure to the viewers”. 

قَالُواْ ادْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ يُبَيِّن لَّنَا مَا هِيَ إِنَّ البَقَرَ تَشَابَهَ عَلَيْنَا وَإِنَّآ إِن شَاء اللَّهُ لَمُهْتَدُونَ

70.            Qaloo odAAu lana rabbaka yubayyin lana ma hiya inna albaqara tashabaha AAalayna wainna in shaa Allahu lamuhtadoona
(They) Again said, “Ask your Râbb in a plain and clear way and tell us, what type of cow is required, we became doubtful to decide about it.  If Allâh wills then we will find her out”.

قَالَ إِنَّهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّهَا بَقَرَةٌ لاَّ ذَلُولٌ تُثِيرُ الأَرْضَ وَلاَ تَسْقِي الْحَرْثَ مُسَلَّمَةٌ لاَّ شِيَةَ فِيهَا قَالُواْ الآنَ جِئْتَ بِالْحَقِّ فَذَبَحُوهَا وَمَا كَادُواْ يَفْعَلُونَ

71.            Qala innahu yaqoolu innaha baqaratun la thaloolun tutheeru alarda wala tasqee alhartha musallamatun la shiyata feeha qaloo alana jita bialhaqqi fathabahooha wama kadoo yafAAaloona
Mûsa responded: “Allâh Says that it is a cow which has not been used for service, neither cultivates the land nor fetches the water, well protected and without defects. On this they shouted out! Yes, now you have given the right description. Then they slaughtered it; otherwise they did not look like doing so. (R) 8

وَإِذْ قَتَلْتُمْ نَفْساً فَادَّارَأْتُمْ فِيهَا وَاللّهُ مُخْرِجٌ مَّا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ

72.            Waith qataltum nafsan faiddaratum feeha waAllahu mukhrijun ma kuntum taktumoona
And do you (Mûsa) remember that incident when you killed a man, then (you) were disputing about it and blaming each other with the charge of murder and Allâh decided that whatever you hide, (HE) would disclose it.

فَقُلْنَا اضْرِبُوهُ بِبَعْضِهَا كَذَلِكَ يُحْيِي اللّهُ الْمَوْتَى وَيُرِيكُمْ آيَاتِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

73.            Faqulna idriboohu bibaAAdiha kathalika yuhyee Allahu almawta wayureekum ayatihi laAAallakum taAAqiloona
At that time WE commanded to strike victim's dead body (corpse) with one piece of it (meat of cow).  Look! This is how Allâh gives life to the dead and shows you HIS Signs so that you understand--

ثُمَّ قَسَتْ قُلُوبُكُم مِّن بَعْدِ ذَلِكَ فَهِيَ كَالْحِجَارَةِ أَوْ أَشَدُّ قَسْوَةً وَإِنَّ مِنَ الْحِجَارَةِ لَمَا يَتَفَجَّرُ مِنْهُ الأَنْهَارُ وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَشَّقَّقُ فَيَخْرُجُ مِنْهُ الْمَاء وَإِنَّ مِنْهَا لَمَا يَهْبِطُ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللّهِ وَمَا اللّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

74.            Thumma qasat quloobukum min baAAdi thalika fahiya kaalhijarati aw ashaddu qaswatan wainna mina alhijarati lama yatafajjaru minhu alanharu wainna minha lama yashshaqqaqu fayakhruju minhu almao wainna minha lama yahbitu min khashyati Allahi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona
But even after seeing such signs your hearts became hard, hard like rocks, or even more harder than it, because from among the rocks there are ones from which springs flow out, some burst and water comes out of it, and a few shake and fall down with the fear of Allâh.  Allâh is not unaware of your deeds.

أَفَتَطْمَعُونَ أَن يُؤْمِنُواْ لَكُمْ وَقَدْ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ كَلاَمَ اللّهِ ثُمَّ يُحَرِّفُونَهُ

مِن بَعْدِ مَا عَقَلُوهُ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

75.            AfatatmaAAoona an yuminoo lakum waqad kana fareequn minhum yasmaAAoona kalama Allahi thumma yuharrifoonahu min baAAdi ma AAaqaloohu wahum yaAAlamoona
O Muslims do you now expect from these people that they will bring Faith on your invitation?  Whereas it has been the role of one group among them that (it) heard the Word of Allâh and then intentionally corrupted it after understanding it well.

وَإِذَا لَقُواْ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ قَالُواْ آمَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلاَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىَ بَعْضٍ قَالُواْ أَتُحَدِّثُونَهُم

 بِمَا فَتَحَ اللّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لِيُحَآجُّوكُم بِهِ عِندَ رَبِّكُمْ أَفَلاَ تَعْقِلُونَ

76.            Waitha laqoo allatheena amanoo qaloo amanna waitha khala baAAduhum ila baAAdin qaloo atuhaddithoonahum bima fataha Allahu AAalaykum liyuhajjookum bihi AAinda rabbikum afala taAAqiloona
They meet with the believers and say that we also believe in him, and when they talk with each other in privacy then they say, “ Are you foolish?”  You tell them those things what Allâh has revealed to you so that they could present it before your Râbb as a justification against you?--

أَوَلاَ يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ اللّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ

77.            Awa la yaAAlamoona anna Allaha yaAAlamu ma yusirroona wama yuAAlinoona
And do they not know that whatever they hide and whatever they tell, Allâh Knows everything?--

وَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابَ إِلاَّ أَمَانِيَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلاَّ يَظُنُّونَ

78.            Waminhum ommiyyoona la yaAAlamoona alkitaba illa amaniyya wain hum illa yathunnoona
There is another group of illiterates among them, who do not have the knowledge of the Book, and they are trusting their baseless and false desires and merely living on doubtful assumptions. 

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ الْكِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَـذَا مِنْ عِندِ اللّهِ لِيَشْتَرُواْ بِهِ

 ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً فَوَيْلٌ لَّهُم مِّمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَّهُمْ مِّمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ

79.            Fawaylun lillatheena yaktuboona alkitaba biaydeehim thumma yaqooloona hatha min AAindi Allahi liyashtaroo bihi thamanan qaleelan fawaylun lahum mimma katabat aydeehim wawaylun lahum mimma yaksiboona
So there is a suffering and destruction for those people who write the book with their own hands and then say to the people that it has come from Allâh so that in return they could get a little benefit!  This writing of their hands is a thing of destruction for them and their (this) earning is also a cause for their destruction. 

وَقَالُواْ لَن تَمَسَّنَا النَّارُ إِلاَّ أَيَّاماً مَّعْدُودَةً قُلْ أَتَّخَذْتُمْ عِندَ اللّهِ عَهْدًا فَلَن يُخْلِفَ اللّهُ

عَهْدَهُ أَمْ تَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللّهِ مَا لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ

80.            Waqaloo lan tamassana alnnaru illa ayyaman maAAdoodatan qul attakhathtum AAinda Allahi AAahdan falan yukhlifa Allahu AAahdahu am taqooloona AAala Allahi ma la taAAlamoona
They say,  “The Hell-Fire is never going to touch us except that (we) may be punished for a few days”.  Ask them, “Have you taken any promise from Allâh which HE cannot violate?”  Or is it that you say such things relating to Allâh about which you do not have any knowledge that HE has taken the responsibility for it? 

بَلَى مَن كَسَبَ سَيِّئَةً وَأَحَاطَتْ بِهِ خَطِيـئَتُهُ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

81.            Bala man kasaba sayyiatan waahatat bihi khateeatuhu faolaika ashabu alnnari hum feeha khalidoona
After all why Hell-Fire will not touch you?  Whoever will commit sin and will remain surrounded with his/her sin; he/she is a resident of hell and will remain in hell forever. 

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَـئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

82.            Waallatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati olaika ashabu aljannati hum feeha khalidoona
And those people who will bring Faith and will do righteous deeds they are the residents of Paradise and (they) will remain in Paradise forever. (R) 9

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ لاَ تَعْبُدُونَ إِلاَّ اللّهَ وَبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ إِحْسَاناً وَذِي الْقُرْبَى وَالْيَتَامَى وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَقُولُواْ لِلنَّاسِ حُسْناً وَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُواْ الزَّكَاةَ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً مِّنكُمْ وَأَنتُم مِّعْرِضُونَ

83.            Waith akhathna meethaqa banee israeela la taAAbudoona illa Allaha wabialwalidayni ihsanan wathee alqurba waalyatama waalmasakeeni waqooloo lilnnasi husnan waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata thumma tawallaytum illa qaleelan minkum waantum muAAridoona
Remember, WE had taken a firm pledge from the Children of Israel that do not worship anyone except Allâh -- do good to your parents, relatives, orphans and the needy (Al-Masâkîn), speak good to the people, establish prayer (Salât) and pay the poor-dues (Zakât), but except a few people you all turned away from this pledge and have deviated till now. 

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ لاَ تَسْفِكُونَ دِمَاءكُمْ وَلاَ تُخْرِجُونَ أَنفُسَكُم مِّن دِيَارِكُمْ

 ثُمَّ أَقْرَرْتُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ

84.            Waith akhathna meethaqakum la tasfikoona dimaakum wala tukhrijoona anfusakum min diyarikum thumma aqrartum waantum tashhadoona
Then just remember, WE had taken a firm pledge from you that do not shed blood among yourselves and nor expel one another from homes. You had promised it; you yourself are witness to it. 

ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ هَـؤُلاء تَقْتُلُونَ أَنفُسَكُمْ وَتُخْرِجُونَ فَرِيقاً مِّنكُم مِّن دِيَارِهِمْ تَظَاهَرُونَ عَلَيْهِم بِالإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَإِن يَأتُوكُمْ أُسَارَى تُفَادُوهُمْ وَهُوَ مُحَرَّمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ إِخْرَاجُهُمْ أَفَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِبَعْضِ الْكِتَابِ وَتَكْفُرُونَ بِبَعْضٍ فَمَا جَزَاء مَن يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ مِنكُمْ إِلاَّ خِزْيٌ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَيَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ يُرَدُّونَ إِلَى أَشَدِّ الْعَذَابِ وَمَا اللّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

85.            Thumma antum haolai taqtuloona anfusakum watukhrijoona fareeqan minkum min diyarihim tathaharoona AAalayhim bialithmi waalAAudwani wain yatookum osara tufadoohum wahuwa muharramun AAalaykum ikhrajuhum afatuminoona bibaAAdi alkitabi watakfuroona bibaAAdin fama jazao man yafAAalu thalika minkum illa khizyun fee alhayati alddunya wayawma alqiyamati yuraddoona ila ashaddi alAAathabi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona
But today you are the ones who slay your own brothers, (you) drive out some of your own relatives from their homes, (you) make alliances against them in cruelty and deceitfulness, and when they come to you as war captives, then you negotiate ransom for their release, whereas it was forbidden for you even to expel them from their homes.  Then: "Do you bring Faith in one part of the Book and commit infidelity (Kufr) with the other part”?  Then from among you -- those people who do so, what else their punishment could be except that (they) should be humiliated in this worldly life and on the Last Day they should be driven to the most painful punishment?  Allâh is not unaware of your deeds--

أُولَـئِكَ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُاْ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالآَخِرَةِ فَلاَ يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ الْعَذَابُ وَلاَ

هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

86.            Olaika allatheena ishtarawoo alhayata alddunya bialakhirati fala yukhaffafu AAanhumu alAAathabu wala hum yunsaroona
These are those people, who have bought the worldly life at the price of the Hereafter, therefore neither their punishment will be reduced nor will any help reach to them. (R) 10

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ وَقَفَّيْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِ بِالرُّسُلِ وَآتَيْنَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ الْبَيِّنَاتِ

وَأَيَّدْنَاهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ أَفَكُلَّمَا جَاءكُمْ رَسُولٌ بِمَا لاَ تَهْوَى أَنفُسُكُمُ اسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ فَفَرِيقاً

كَذَّبْتُمْ وَفَرِيقاً تَقْتُلُونَ

87.            Walaqad atayna moosa alkitaba waqaffayna min baAAdihi bialrrusuli waatayna AAeesa ibna maryama albayyinati waayyadnahu biroohi alqudusi afakullama jaakum rasoolun bima la tahwa anfusukumu istakbartum fafareeqan kaththabtum wafareeqan taqtuloona
WE gave Mûsa the Book, after him consecutively sent many Rasools, then (WE) sent Iesa son of Maryam with clear signs and helped him with the Holy Spirit (Rûh-ul-Qudus).  Then is this your behavior that whenever any Rasool came to you with anything against your desire -- you revolted against him, (you) denied some and killed some? --

وَقَالُواْ قُلُوبُنَا غُلْفٌ بَل لَّعَنَهُمُ اللَّه بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَقَلِيلاً مَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ

88.            Waqaloo quloobuna ghulfun bal laAAanahumu Allahu bikufrihim faqaleelan ma yuminoona
They say, “Our hearts are protected”.  By no means, the truth is that Allâh has cursed them because of their infidelity (Kufr), for this reason they rarely bring Faith --

وَلَمَّا جَاءهُمْ كِتَابٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ وَكَانُواْ مِن قَبْلُ يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ

عَلَى الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ فَلَمَّا جَاءهُم مَّا عَرَفُواْ كَفَرُواْ بِهِ فَلَعْنَةُ اللَّه عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ

89.            Walamma jaahum kitabun min AAindi Allahi musaddiqun lima maAAahum wakanoo min qablu yastaftihoona AAala allatheena kafaroo falamma jaahum ma AAarafoo kafaroo bihi falaAAnatu Allahi AAala alkafireena
And now when the Book (Al-Qur'ân) has come to them from Allâh -- how is their behavior about it?  Although it confirms that Book which was already with them, even though before the revelation of this Book they used to pray for the remarkable victory over the unbelievers, but when that thing came, which they also recognized, even then they refused to accept it.  The Curse of Allâh is upon these infidels (Kafir),

بِئْسَمَا اشْتَرَوْاْ بِهِ أَنفُسَهُمْ أَن يَكْفُرُواْ بِمَا أنَزَلَ اللّهُ بَغْياً أَن يُنَزِّلُ اللّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ

عَلَى مَن يَشَاء مِنْ عِبَادِهِ فَبَآؤُواْ بِغَضَبٍ عَلَى غَضَبٍ وَلِلْكَافِرِينَ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ

90.            Bisama ishtaraw bihi anfusahum an yakfuroo bima anzala Allahu baghyan an yunazzila Allahu min fadlihi AAala man yashao min AAibadihi fabaoo bighadabin AAala ghadabin walilkafireena AAathabun muheenun
What an evil way is this with which they obtain satisfaction for their souls that the guidance (Al-Qur'ân) Allâh has revealed they are refusing to embrace it only for the reason that Allâh has favored with HIS favor (revelation and Prophethood) whom HE HIMSELF has chosen from among HIS servants?  Therefore now they deserve fury upon fire and humiliated punishment has been predetermined for such infidels (Kafir).

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ آمِنُواْ بِمَا أَنزَلَ اللّهُ قَالُواْ نُؤْمِنُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَيَكْفُرونَ بِمَا وَرَاءهُ

وَهُوَ الْحَقُّ مُصَدِّقاً لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ قُلْ فَلِمَ تَقْتُلُونَ أَنبِيَاء اللّهِ مِن قَبْلُ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

91.            Waitha qeela lahum aminoo bima anzala Allahu qaloo numinu bima onzila AAalayna wayakfuroona bima waraahu wahuwa alhaqqu musaddiqan lima maAAahum qul falima taqtuloona anbiyaa Allahi min qablu in kuntum mumineena
When it is said to them, “Bring Faith in that which Allâh has revealed”, then they say, "we only bring Faith in that which has been sent down to us (Children of Israel)."  Whatever has come out of it, they refuse to accept it, whereas it is the Truth and is confirming the knowledge that they already had with them.  Well, ask them: "If you are the believer of only that knowledge which had come towards you, then before this why have you been killing those Prophets of Allâh (who were even born among your own nation -- Bani-Israel)”?

وَلَقَدْ جَاءكُم مُّوسَى بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ ثُمَّ اتَّخَذْتُمُ الْعِجْلَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَنتُمْ ظَالِمُونَ

92.            Walaqad jaakum moosa bialbayyinati thumma ittakhathtumu alAAijla min baAAdihi waantum thalimoona
Mûsa came to you with all plain and clear proofs.  Even then you were so cruel that as he (Mûsa) turned his back -- you took the calf as your deity. 

وَإِذْ أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَكُمْ وَرَفَعْنَا فَوْقَكُمُ الطُّورَ خُذُواْ مَا آتَيْنَاكُم بِقُوَّةٍ وَاسْمَعُواْ قَالُواْ

سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَأُشْرِبُواْ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الْعِجْلَ بِكُفْرِهِمْ قُلْ بِئْسَمَا يَأْمُرُكُمْ بِهِ

إِيمَانُكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِينَ

93.            Waith akhathna meethaqakum warafaAAna fawqakumu alttoora khuthoo ma ataynakum biquwwatin waismaAAoo qaloo samiAAna waAAasayna waoshriboo fee quloobihimu alAAijla bikufrihim qul bisama yamurukum bihi eemanukum in kuntum mumineena
Then just remember that pledge, which WE had taken from you by raising Tur over you. WE urged that the Guidance WE are giving; strictly obey it and listen to it carefully.  Your forefathers said, “We have heard, but will not obey”.  And this was the condition of their falsehood that calf was living in their hearts.  Say, “If you are believers, then it is a strange faith that commands you to do such evil things”.

قُلْ إِن كَانَتْ لَكُمُ الدَّارُ الآَخِرَةُ عِندَ اللّهِ خَالِصَةً مِّن دُونِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُاْ الْمَوْتَ

إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

94.            Qul in kanat lakumu alddaru alakhiratu AAinda Allahi khalisatan min dooni alnnasi fatamannawoo almawta in kuntum sadiqeena
Ask them: “If in fact in the Sight of Allâh the home of hereafter is reserved only for you excluding rest of the mankind, then you should desire for death, if you are truthful in your claims-- 

وَلَن يَتَمَنَّوْهُ أَبَدًا بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَاللّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمينَ

95.            Walan yatamannawhu abadan bima qaddamat aydeehim waAllahu AAaleemun bialththalimeena
Believe it, they will never wish for it, because whatever they have earned by their hands and sent it there, it is a demand of that (they should not wish to go there), Allâh is well aware of the intentions of these criminals (Zâlimûn). 

وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ أَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلَى حَيَاةٍ وَمِنَ الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُواْ يَوَدُّ أَحَدُهُمْ لَوْ يُعَمَّرُ

أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ وَمَا هُوَ بِمُزَحْزِحِهِ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ أَن يُعَمَّرَ وَاللّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ

96.            Walatajidannahum ahrasa alnnasi AAala hayatin wamina allatheena ashrakoo yawaddu ahaduhum law yuAAammaru alfa sanatin wama huwa bimuzahzihihi mina alAAathabi an yuAAammara waAllahu baseerun bima yaAAmaloona
You will find them the greediest for life than the entire mankind, even though they are greedier in this matter than the idolaters (Mushriks).  Each of them wishes that in any way he/she could live for a thousand years, whereas a long life cannot keep them away from the punishment.  Whatever deeds they are doing, Allâh is watching over them. (R) 11

قُلْ مَن كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّجِبْرِيلَ فَإِنَّهُ نَزَّلَهُ عَلَى قَلْبِكَ بِإِذْنِ اللّهِ مُصَدِّقاً لِّمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ

وَهُدًى وَبُشْرَى لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

97.            Qul man kana AAaduwwan lijibreela fainnahu nazzalahu AAala qalbika biithni Allahi musaddiqan lima bayna yadayhi wahudan wabushra lilmumineena
Tell them: “Whoever has an animosity with Jibrael, he/she should know that Jibrael has revealed this Qur'ân to your (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) heart with the permission of Allâh which confirms and supports the previous Scriptures and has come as a guidance and good news of success for those who bring Faith.

مَن كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِّلّهِ وَمَلآئِكَتِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَجِبْرِيلَ وَمِيكَالَ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ عَدُوٌّ لِّلْكَافِرِينَ

98.            Man kana AAaduwwan lillahi wamalaikatihi warusulihi wajibreela wameekala fainna Allaha AAaduwwun lilkafireena
(If this is the reason of their enmity with Jibrael, then tell them) Whoever is an enemy of Allâh and HIS Angels and HIS Rasools and Jibrael and Mikael, Allâh is an enemy of those infidels (Kafir).

وَلَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ وَمَا يَكْفُرُ بِهَا إِلاَّ الْفَاسِقُونَ

99.            Walaqad anzalna ilayka ayatin bayyinatin wama yakfuru biha illa alfasiqoona
WE have revealed such Verses towards you (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), which clearly manifest the Truth.  And only those people refuse to follow them who are Deceivers (Fâsiqûn).

أَوَكُلَّمَا عَاهَدُواْ عَهْداً نَّبَذَهُ فَرِيقٌ مِّنْهُم بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ

100.         Awa kullama AAahadoo AAahdan nabathahu fareequn minhum bal aktharuhum la yuminoona
Has it not always been like it --that when they made any pledge, then one or another group among them certainly put it aside?  But in fact, most of them are alike; who do not bring Faith with sincerity. 

وَلَمَّا جَاءهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللّهِ مُصَدِّقٌ لِّمَا مَعَهُمْ نَبَذَ فَرِيقٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُواْ

الْكِتَابَ كِتَابَ اللّهِ وَرَاء ظُهُورِهِمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ

101.         Walamma jaahum rasoolun min AAindi Allahi musaddiqun lima maAAahum nabatha fareequn mina allatheena ootoo alkitaba kitaba Allahi waraa thuhoorihim kaannahum la yaAAlamoona
And when any Rasool came to them from Allâh confirming and supporting the Scripture they already had with them, then a group among the people of Scripture turned down this Book of Allâh as if they know nothing. 

وَاتَّبَعُواْ مَا تَتْلُواْ الشَّيَاطِينُ عَلَى مُلْكِ سُلَيْمَانَ وَمَا كَفَرَ سُلَيْمَانُ وَلَـكِنَّ الشَّيْاطِينَ كَفَرُواْ يُعَلِّمُونَ النَّاسَ السِّحْرَ وَمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَى الْمَلَكَيْنِ بِبَابِلَ هَارُوتَ وَمَارُوتَ وَمَا يُعَلِّمَانِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ حَتَّى يَقُولاَ إِنَّمَا نَحْنُ فِتْنَةٌ فَلاَ تَكْفُرْ فَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مِنْهُمَا مَا يُفَرِّقُونَ بِهِ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَزَوْجِهِ وَمَا هُم بِضَآرِّينَ بِهِ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِ اللّهِ وَيَتَعَلَّمُونَ مَا يَضُرُّهُمْ وَلاَ يَنفَعُهُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمُواْ لَمَنِ اشْتَرَاهُ مَا لَهُ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلاَقٍ وَلَبِئْسَ مَا شَرَوْاْ بِهِ أَنفُسَهُمْ لَوْ كَانُواْ يَعْلَمُونَ

102.         WaittabaAAoo ma tatloo alshshayateenu AAala mulki sulaymana wama kafara sulaymanu walakinna alshshayateena kafaroo yuAAallimoona alnnasa alssihra wama onzila AAala almalakayni bibabila haroota wamaroota wama yuAAallimani min ahadin hatta yaqoola innama nahnu fitnatun fala takfur fayataAAallamoona minhuma ma yufarriqoona bihi bayna almari wazawjihi wama hum bidarreena bihi min ahadin illa biithni Allahi wayataAAallamoona ma yadurruhum wala yanfaAAuhum walaqad AAalimoo lamani ishtarahu ma lahu fee alakhirati min khalaqin walabisa ma sharaw bihi anfusahum law kanoo yaAAlamoona
And began to follow those things which devils (Shayâtin) used to present with the name of empire of Sulaimân, whereas Sulaimân never committed infidelity (Kufr), infidels were those devils (Shayâtin) who used to teach magic to the people.  They were after that thing which was sent down at two Angels Hârût and Mârût in Babylon, whereas whenever they (angels) taught this to anyone -- first of all they used to clearly warn: "Look! We are merely a test, you should not commit infidelity (Kufr)."  Even then these people used to learn that thing from them by which they could cause separation between husband and wife.  Obviously they could not do any harm to anyone with this magic without the leave of Allâh but even then they used to learn such thing which was not even profitable for them, but was harmful and they knew it very well that whoever became the buyer of it, there is no share for him/her in the Hereafter.  What an evil wealth it was for which they sold their own souls -- would that they knew it!

وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ آمَنُواْ واتَّقَوْا لَمَثُوبَةٌ مِّنْ عِندِ اللَّه خَيْرٌ لَّوْ كَانُواْ يَعْلَمُونَ

103.         Walaw annahum amanoo waittaqaw lamathoobatun min AAindi Allahi khayrun law kanoo yaAAlamoona
If they have adopted Faith and piety, then the reward they would have received from Allâh -- it was lot better for them.  Would that they knew it! (R) 12

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَقُولُواْ رَاعِنَا وَقُولُواْ انظُرْنَا وَاسْمَعُوا ْوَلِلكَافِرِينَ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

104.         Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la taqooloo raAAina waqooloo onthurna waismaAAoo walilkafireena AAathabun aleemun
O people who have brought Faith, do not say "Râ'ina" (listen to us/our shepherd etc.) but say "Unzurna" (look upon us -- please make us understand) and listen carefully, these infidels (Kafir) deserve a severe punishment. 

مَّا يَوَدُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ وَلاَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَن يُنَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ

مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَاللّهُ يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَن يَشَاء وَاللّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ

105.         Ma yawaddu allatheena kafaroo min ahli alkitabi wala almushrikeena an yunazzala AAalaykum min khayrin min rabbikum waAllahu yakhtassu birahmatihi man yashao waAllahu thoo alfadli alAAatheemi
These people who have denied to accept the message of Truth, either from among the people of the Book or the idolaters (Al-Mushrikûn), (they) never like it that any good should come to you from your Râbb, but whomsoever Allâh wants, chooses for HIS Blessing and Allâh is most Loving.

مَا نَنسَخْ مِنْ آيَةٍ أَوْ نُنسِهَا نَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ مِّنْهَا أَوْ مِثْلِهَا أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللّهَ عَلَىَ

كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

106.         Ma nansakh min ayatin aw nunsiha nati bikhayrin minha aw mithliha alam taAAlam anna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun
Whichever of OUR Verse (Ayât) WE cancel or cause to be forgotten, in place of that (WE) bring better than it or at least similar to it.  Do you not know that Allâh has Power over everything? 

أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ اللّهَ لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ

وَلاَ نَصِيرٍ

107.         Alam taAAlam anna Allaha lahu mulku alssamawati waalardi wama lakum min dooni Allahi min waliyyin wala naseerin
Do you not know that the Kingdom of the skies and the earth is for Allâh Alone and there is no one except HIM (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) who can protect or help you?

أَمْ تُرِيدُونَ أَن تَسْأَلُواْ رَسُولَكُمْ كَمَا سُئِلَ مُوسَى مِن قَبْلُ وَمَن يَتَبَدَّلِ الْكُفْرَ بِالإِيمَانِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَاء السَّبِيلِ

108.         Am tureedoona an tasaloo rasoolakum kama suila moosa min qablu waman yatabaddali alkufra bialeemani faqad dalla sawaa alssabeeli
Would you then want to demand and ask that type of questions from your Rasool as before this -- Mûsa has been asked?  Whereas the one who trade Faith with infidelity (Atheism), he/she has gone astray from the Straight Path.

وَدَّ كَثِيرٌ مِّنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يَرُدُّونَكُم مِّن بَعْدِ إِيمَانِكُمْ كُفَّاراً حَسَدًا مِّنْ عِندِ

 أَنفُسِهِم مِّن بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الْحَقُّ فَاعْفُواْ وَاصْفَحُواْ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَ اللّهُ بِأَمْرِهِ

إِنَّ اللّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

109.         Wadda katheerun min ahli alkitabi law yaruddoonakum min baAAdi eemanikum kuffaran hasadan min AAindi anfusihim min baAAdi ma tabayyana lahumu alhaqqu faoAAfoo waisfahoo hatta yatiya Allahu biamrihi inna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun
Many people from among the people of the Scripture want that in anyway they could turn you back from Faith to the infidelity (Kufr).  However the truth has been manifested to them, but this is their wish for you because of jealousy of their souls.  In return you should treat them with tolerance and forgiveness until Allâh enforces HIS Own Judgment.  Be certain that Allâh has Power over everything.

وَأَقِيمُواْ الصَّلاَةَ وَآتُواْ الزَّكَاةَ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُواْ لأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ اللّهِ إِنَّ

اللّهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

110.         Waaqeemoo alssalata waatoo alzzakata wama tuqaddimoo lianfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahi inna Allaha bima taAAmaloona baseerun
Establish prayer (Salât) and pay the poor-dues (Zakât).  Whatever good deeds you will send in advance for your future, you will find it with Allâh. Whatever you do, that is in the Sight of Allâh.

وَقَالُواْ لَن يَدْخُلَ الْجَنَّةَ إِلاَّ مَن كَانَ هُوداً أَوْ نَصَارَى تِلْكَ أَمَانِيُّهُمْ قُلْ هَاتُواْ

 بُرْهَانَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

111.         Waqaloo lan yadkhula aljannata illa man kana hoodan aw nasara tilka amaniyyuhum qul hatoo burhanakum in kuntum sadiqeena
They say,  “No one will enter the Paradise unless he/she is a Jew or is a Christian (according to Christians)”.  These are their desires.  Ask them; provide your evidence, if you are truthful in your claims. 

بَلَى مَنْ أَسْلَمَ وَجْهَهُ لِلّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَلَهُ أَجْرُهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ وَلاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ

وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ

112.         Bala man aslama wajhahu lillahi wahuwa muhsinun falahu ajruhu AAinda rabbihi wala khawfun AAalayhim wala hum yahzanoona
(In fact neither you nor anyone else has any specialty) The truth is – the one who submits himself/herself to Allâh and practically follows the righteous path, for this there is a huge reward for him/her with his/her Râbb and there is no reason of grieve and fear for such people. (R) 13

وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ لَيْسَتِ النَّصَارَى عَلَىَ شَيْءٍ وَقَالَتِ النَّصَارَى لَيْسَتِ الْيَهُودُ عَلَى شَيْءٍ وَهُمْ يَتْلُونَ الْكِتَابَ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِمْ فَاللّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِيمَا كَانُواْ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ

113.         Waqalati alyahoodu laysati alnnasara AAala shayin waqalati alnnasara laysati alyahoodu AAala shayin wahum yatloona alkitaba kathalika qala allatheena la yaAAlamoona mithla qawlihim faAllahu yahkumu baynahum yawma alqiyamati feema kanoo feehi yakhtalifoona
The Jews say: "The Christians have nothing."  The Christians say:  “The Jews have nothing--whereas they both recite the Book--and also the similar claims are of those people who do not have any knowledge of the Book.  The differences, in which these people have been involved, Allâh will give decision about those on the Day of Judgment.

وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن مَّنَعَ مَسَاجِدَ اللّهِ أَن يُذْكَرَ فِيهَا اسْمُهُ وَسَعَى فِي خَرَابِهَا أُوْلَـئِكَ مَا كَانَ لَهُمْ أَن يَدْخُلُوهَا إِلاَّ خَآئِفِينَ لهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا خِزْيٌ وَلَهُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

114.         Waman athlamu mimman manaAAa masajida Allahi an yuthkara feeha ismuhu wasaAAa fee kharabiha olaika ma kana lahum an yadkhulooha illa khaifeena lahum fee alddunya khizyun walahum fee alakhirati AAathabun AAatheemun
And who else could be crueler than the one who forbids the remembrance of the name of Allâh in the houses of Allâh and strives for their ruin?  Such people do not deserve to enter in these houses of Allâh and if they ever enter, they should be in fear. There is disgrace for them in this world, and a severe punishment in the Hereafter.

وَلِلّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ فَأَيْنَمَا تُوَلُّواْ فَثَمَّ وَجْهُ اللّهِ إِنَّ اللّهَ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

115.         Walillahi almashriqu waalmaghribu faaynama tuwalloo fathamma wajhu Allahi inna Allaha wasiAAun AAaleemun
The East and the West -- all belongs to Allâh.  Whatever direction you will turn your face; in the same direction there is an appearance of Allâh.  Allâh is Omnipotent and All Knowing.

وَقَالُواْ اتَّخَذَ اللّهُ وَلَدًا سُبْحَانَهُ بَل لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ كُلٌّ لَّهُ قَانِتُونَ

116.         Waqaloo itakhatha Allahu waladan subhanahu bal lahu ma fee alssamawati waalardi kullun lahu qanitoona
It is their claim that, “Allâh has taken someone as HIS son”.  Allâh is pure from such things.  The real fact is that everything in the skies and in the earth belongs to HIM (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala); all are subservient to HIM,

بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَإِذَا قَضَى أَمْراً فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ

117.         BadeeAAu alssamawati waalardi waitha qada amran fainnama yaqoolu lahu kun fayakoonu
HE is the Creator/Originator of the skies and the earth, and whatever HE decides to do, for that (HE) only orders, "BE" and it is (it comes into existent).

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ لاَ يَعْلَمُونَ لَوْلاَ يُكَلِّمُنَا اللّهُ أَوْ تَأْتِينَا آيَةٌ كَذَلِكَ قَالَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّثْلَقَوْلِهِمْ تَشَابَهَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ قَدْ بَيَّنَّا الآيَاتِ لِقَوْمٍ يُوقِنُونَ

118.         Waqala allatheena la yaAAlamoona lawla yukallimuna Allahu aw tateena ayatun kathalika qala allatheena min qablihim mithla qawlihim tashabahat quloobuhum qad bayyanna alayati liqawmin yooqinoona
The illiterate (people) say, “Why does not Allâh speak to us directly or why does not any sign comes to us”?  The people before them also used to talk similar things.  All of them (who are gone astray) have the same mentality.  WE have already shown clear signs for those who bring Faith.

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا وَلاَ تُسْأَلُ عَنْ أَصْحَابِ الْجَحِيمِ

119.         Inna arsalnaka bialhaqqi basheeran wanatheeran wala tusalu Aaan ashabi aljaheemi
(What else will be greater Sign than this that) WE sent you (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as a Messenger of glad tidings and a warner with the knowledge of Truth.  Now you (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) are not accountable and answerable for those (people), who are determined to go to the Hell-Fire.

وَلَن تَرْضَى عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلاَ النَّصَارَى حَتَّى تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللّهِ هُوَ الْهُدَى وَلَئِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ أَهْوَاءهُم بَعْدَ الَّذِي جَاءكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ مَا لَكَ مِنَ اللّهِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلاَ نَصِيرٍ

120.         Walan tarda AAanka alyahoodu wala alnnasara hatta tattabiAAa millatahum qul inna huda Allahi huwa alhuda walaini ittabaAAta ahwaahum baAAda allathee jaaka mina alAAilmi ma laka mina Allahi min waliyyin wala naseerin
The Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you unless you start following their way.  Say clearly that the Way is only that which Allâh has shown. Otherwise, if after that knowledge, which has come to you – (if) you follow their desires, then there is no friend and helper for you to protect from the anger of Allâh. 

الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَتْلُونَهُ حَقَّ تِلاَوَتِهِ أُوْلَـئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَمن يَكْفُرْ بِهِ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ

 هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ

121.         Allatheena ataynahumu alkitaba yatloonahu haqqa tilawatihi olaika yuminoona bihi waman yakfur bihi faolaika humu alkhasiroona
Those people, whom WE have given Book, they recite it as it should be recited.  They truthfully bring Faith on it (Al-Qur'ân).  And those who adopt the attitude of infidelity (Kufr) with it, in fact they are the losers. (R) 14

يَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ

122.         Ya banee israeela othkuroo niAAmatiya allatee anAAamtu AAalaykum waannee faddaltukum AAala alAAalameena
O Children of Israel, remember MY Favor which I had done to you, and that I had preferred you above all the nations of the world. 

وَاتَّقُواْ يَوْماً لاَّ تَجْزِي نَفْسٌ عَن نَّفْسٍ شَيْئاً وَلاَ يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا عَدْلٌ وَلاَ تَنفَعُهَا شَفَاعَةٌ

 وَلاَ هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

123.         Waittaqoo yawman la tajzee nafsun AAan nafsin shayan wala yuqbalu minha AAadlun wala tanfaAAuha shafaAAatun wala hum yunsaroona
And fear the Day when no one will benefit from anyone at all, neither any ransom will be accepted from anyone, nor any intercession will benefit a person, and nor any help will reach to the criminals from anywhere.

وَإِذِ ابْتَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ رَبُّهُ بِكَلِمَاتٍ فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ قَالَ إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًا قَالَ وَمِن

 ذُرِّيَّتِي قَالَ لاَ يَنَالُ عَهْدِي الظَّالِمِينَ

124.         Waithi ibtala ibraheema rabbuhu bikalimatin faatammahunna qala innee jaAAiluka lilnnasi imaman qala wamin thurriyyatee qala la yanalu AAahdee alththalimeena
Remember when Ibrâhim’s Râbb tested him with certain commandments, and he obeyed all of those (commandments).  Then HE (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) said: "I AM going to make you a leader (Imâm) of all the people."  Ibrâhim asked:  "And does this promise also hold for my children?"  HE (Allâh, subhaana wa ta’aala) responded: "MY promise is not about the oppressors (Zâlimûn)."

وَإِذْ جَعَلْنَا الْبَيْتَ مَثَابَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَأَمْناً وَاتَّخِذُواْ مِن مَّقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى وَعَهِدْنَا

 إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ أَن طَهِّرَا بَيْتِيَ لِلطَّائِفِينَ وَالْعَاكِفِينَ وَالرُّكَّعِ السُّجُودِ

125.         Waith jaAAalna albayta mathabatan lilnnasi waamnan waittakhithoo min maqami ibraheema musallan waAAahidna ila ibraheema waismaAAeela an tahhira baytiya lilttaifeena waalAAakifeena waalrrukkaAAi alssujoodi
And that WE had made this House (the Ka'bah) a nucleus and peaceful place for the mankind and had commanded the people, that the place (Maqâm) where Ibrâhim stands for prayer make it as your permanent place of prayer, and urged Ibrâhim and Ismâ'il that keep MY House clean (purified) for those who are circulating (around the Ka'bah) and meditating (sitting in I'tikâf) and bowing down and prostrating (in prayers).

وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ رَبِّ اجْعَلْ هَـَذَا بَلَدًا آمِنًا وَارْزُقْ أَهْلَهُ مِنَ الثَّمَرَاتِ مَنْ آمَنَ

 مِنْهُم بِاللّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ قَالَ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَأُمَتِّعُهُ قَلِيلاً ثُمَّ أَضْطَرُّهُ إِلَى عَذَابِ

 النَّارِ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

126.         Waith qala ibraheemu rabbi ijAAal hatha baladan aminan waorzuq ahlahu mina alththamarati man amana minhum biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri qala waman kafara faomattiAAuhu qaleelan thumma adtarruhu ila AAathabi alnnari wabisa almaseeru
And that Ibrâhim prayed: "O my Râbb, make this city a city of peace, and from among its people who believe in Allâh and the Last Day, give them all kinds of fruits as provisions."  In response, his Râbb said, "And who will not believe (in ME), I shall also give them provisions of this temporarily worldly life, but eventually I will drag them towards the punishment of Fire, and it is the worst destination”.

وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ

 السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

127.         Waith yarfaAAu ibraheemu alqawaAAida mina albayti waismaAAeelu rabbana taqabbal minna innaka anta alssameeAAu alAAaleemu
And remember, when Ibrâhim and Ismâ'il were raising the walls of this House, they were praying: "O our Râbb, accept this service from us, YOU Listen to all and Know everything. 

رَبَّنَا وَاجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَا أُمَّةً مُّسْلِمَةً لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَآ

 إِنَّكَ أَنتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

128.         Rabbana waijAAalna muslimayni laka wamin thurriyyatina ommatan muslimatan laka waarina manasikana watub AAalayna innaka anta alttawwabu alrraheemu
O Râbb, make both of us YOUR Muslim (obedient), raise such nation from our progeny, which should be YOUR Muslim, teach us the ways of YOUR worship (Manâsik), and forgive us our shortcomings, YOU are the Most Forgiving and Merciful.

رَبَّنَا وَابْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولاً مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ

 وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ العَزِيزُ الحَكِيمُ

129.         Rabbana waibAAath feehim rasoolan minhum yatloo AAalayhim ayatika wayuAAallimuhumu alkitaba waalhikmata wayuzakkeehim innaka anta alAAazeezu alhakeemu
And O Râbb, among these people from their own nation raise a Rasool, who recites YOUR Verses to them, teaches them a Book and Wisdom (Al-Hikmah) and purifies their lives.  YOU are the Omnipotent and the Wise." (R) 15

وَمَن يَرْغَبُ عَن مِّلَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِلاَّ مَن سَفِهَ نَفْسَهُ وَلَقَدِ اصْطَفَيْنَاهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَإِنَّهُ

 فِي الآخِرَةِ لَمِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

130.         Waman yarghabu AAan millati ibraheema illa man safiha nafsahu walaqadi istafaynahu fee alddunya wainnahu fee alakhirati lamina alssaliheena
Now who is to dislike the Deen (the way to live life) of Ibrâhim?  Who else could be except the one who has indulged himself/herself in stupidity and ignorance?  Ibrâhim is the man whom WE had chosen in this world for OUR Service and in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous. 

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ رَبُّهُ أَسْلِمْ قَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

131.         Ith qala lahu rabbuhu aslim qala aslamtu lirabbi alAAalameena
He was such a person that when his Râbb said to him: "Be a Muslim (Submit yourself)", he immediately said: "I have become a "Muslim" to the Owner of the Universes (Râbb-ul -'Alamîn)." 

وَوَصَّى بِهَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ يَا بَنِيَّ إِنَّ اللّهَ اصْطَفَى لَكُمُ الدِّينَ فَلاَ تَمُوتُنَّ

إَلاَّ وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ

132.         Wawassa biha ibraheemu baneehi wayaAAqoobu ya baniyya inna Allaha istafa lakumu alddeena fala tamootunna illa waantum muslimoona
He had advised to his children to follow the same Deen (the way to live life) and the same advice Ya'qûb had given to his children. He said: "O my children! Allâh has chosen this Deen (the way to live life) for you.  Therefore remain Muslim till the time of death." 

أَمْ كُنتُمْ شُهَدَاء إِذْ حَضَرَ يَعْقُوبَ الْمَوْتُ إِذْ قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن بَعْدِي قَالُواْ

 نَعْبُدُ إِلَـهَكَ وَإِلَـهَ آبَائِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَقَ إِلَـهًا وَاحِدًا وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ

133.         Am kuntum shuhadaa ith hadara yaAAqooba almawtu ith qala libaneehi ma taAAbudoona min baAAdee qaloo naAAbudu ilahaka wailaha abaika ibraheema waismaAAeela waishaqa ilahan wahidan wanahnu lahu muslimoona
Then were you present at that time when Ya'qûb was departing from this world?  At the time of his death he asked his sons: "O children, whom will you worship after me?"  They all replied: "We will worship only the same one Allâh WHOM you and your forefathers, Ibrâhim, Ismâ'il, and Ishâque accepted Allâh and we are HIS Muslims."

تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلاَ تُسْأَلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

134.         Tilka ommatun qad khalat laha ma kasabat walakum ma kasabtum wala tusaloona AAamma kano yaAAmaloona
They were some people, who passed away. Whatever they earned, that is for them and whatever you will earn that is for you.  You will not be asked what they used to do.

وَقَالُواْ كُونُواْ هُودًا أَوْ نَصَارَى تَهْتَدُواْ قُلْ بَلْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ

 الْمُشْرِكِينَ

135.         Waqaloo koonoo hoodan aw nasara tahtadoo qul bal millata ibraheema haneefan wama kana mina almushrikeena
The Jews say, “Become Jew, then you will be on the right path”. The Christians say, “Become Christian, then you will have the guidance”.  Say to them: "Absolutely not, but leave everyone and embrace the way of Ibrâhim.  And Ibrâhim was not from the idolaters (Al-Mushrikûn)”.  

قُولُواْ آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنزِلَ إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالأسْبَاطِ وَمَا أُوتِيَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى وَمَا أُوتِيَ النَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ لاَ نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍمِّنْهُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ

136.         Qooloo amanna biAllahi wama onzila ilayna wama onzila ila ibraheema waismaAAeela waishaqa wayaAAqooba waalasbati wama ootiya moosa waAAeesa wama ootiya alnnabiyyoona min rabbihim la nufarriqu bayna ahadin minhum wanahnu lahu muslimoona
O Muslims, say that: "We brought Faith in Allâh and on that Guidance which has been sent down towards us and which was sent down towards Ibrâhim, Ismâ'il, Ishâque, Ya'qûb and the children of Ya'qûb (Al-Asbât) and that which was given to Mûsa and 'Iesa and to all other Prophets from their Râbb.  We do not do any discrimination among them, and we are the Muslims of Allâh."

فَإِنْ آمَنُواْ بِمِثْلِ مَا آمَنتُم بِهِ فَقَدِ اهْتَدَواْ وَّإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِي شِقَاقٍ فَسَيَكْفِيكَهُمُ

 اللّهُ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

137.         Fain amanoo bimithli ma amantum bihi faqadi ihtadaw wain tawallaw fainnama hum fee shiqaqin fasayakfeekahumu Allahu wahuwa alssameeAAu alAAaleemu
Then if they bring Faith the same way, as you have brought Faith, then they are on the Straight Path, and if they turn away from it, then it is obvious that they are in stubbornness (rigidity).  Therefore be certain that Allâh is sufficient for your help against them.  HE Hears and Knows everything.

صِبْغَةَ اللّهِ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ اللّهِ صِبْغَةً وَنَحْنُ لَهُ عَابِدونَ

138.         Sibghata Allahi waman ahsanu mina Allahi sibghatan wanahnu lahu AAabidoona
Say: "Embrace the Color (Sibghah) of Allâh.  Whose color could be better than the Color of Allâh?  And we are HIS Servants."

قُلْ أَتُحَآجُّونَنَا فِي اللّهِ وَهُوَ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ وَلَنَا أَعْمَالُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَالُكُمْ وَنَحْنُ

 لَهُ مُخْلِصُونَ

139.         Qul atuhajjoonana fee Allahi wahuwa rabbuna warabbukum walana aAAmaluna walakum aAAmalukum wanahnu lahu mukhlisoona
O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), ask them: "Do you dispute with us about Allâh?  Whereas HE is our Râbb as well as your Râbb?  Our deeds are for us, your deeds are for you, and we have dedicated our worship to Allâh Alone.  

أَمْ تَقُولُونَ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَـقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالأسْبَاطَ كَانُواْ هُودًا

أَوْ نَصَارَى قُلْ أَأَنتُمْ أَعْلَمُ أَمِ اللّهُ وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن كَتَمَ شَهَادَةً عِندَهُ مِنَ اللّهِ

وَمَا اللّهُ بِغَافِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

140.         Am taqooloona inna ibraheema waismaAAeela waishaqa wayaAAqooba waalasbata kanoo hoodan aw nasara qul aantum aAAlamu ami Allahu waman athlamu mimman katama shahadatan AAindahu mina Allahi wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona
Or do you say that Ibrâhim, Ismâ'il, Ishâque, Ya'qûb, and the children of Ya'qûb (Al-Asbât) all of them were Jews or Christians?"   Say, "Do you know more or Allâh?  Who else will be crueler than the one, who has a testimony from Allâh and he/she hides it?  Allâh is not unaware of your deeds --

تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌ قَدْ خَلَتْ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ وَلاَ تُسْأَلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ

141.         Tilka ommatun qad khalat laha ma kasabat walakum ma kasabtum wala tusaloona AAamma kanoo yaAAmaloona
They were some people who passed away.  Their earnings were for them and your earning is for you. You will not be questioned about their deeds. (R) 16
