Chapter 2

Total Verses: 286

Bismi Allahi alrrahmani alrraheemi

(I) Begin with the Name of Allāh WHO is Most Loving and Most Merciful

142.          Sayaqoolu alssufahao mina alnnasi ma wallahum AAan qiblatihimu allatee kanoo AAalayha qul lillahi almashriqu waalmaghribu yahdee man yashao ila siratin mustaqeemin
The senseless people will definitely say: "What happened to them that the direction (Qiblah) they used to face in their prayers, they suddenly turned away from it?" O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) tell them: "The East and the West -- all belong to Allāh. Whoever Allāh Wants, Guides to the Straight Path."

143.          Wakathalika jaAAalnakum ommatan wasatan litakoonoo shuhadaa AAala alnnasi wayakoona alrrasoolu AAalaykum shaheedan wama jaAAalna alqiblata allatee kunta AAalayha illa linaAAlama man yattabiAAu alrrasoola mimman yanqalibu AAala AAaqibayhi wain kanat lakabeeratan illa AAala allatheena hada Allahu wama kana Allahu liyudeeAAa eemanakum inna Allaha bialnnasi laraoofun raheemun
And in the same way WE have made you Muslims an "Ummah-e-Wasat" (truthful and the best nation of all) so that you be witnesses over the people of the world and the Rasool (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) be a witness over you. The direction, which you used to face before, WE made that a prayer direction (Qiblah) only to see that who obey the Rasool (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and who disobey. This thing was very hard indeed, but it did not prove hard for those people who were blessed with the guidance from Allāh. Allāh will never waste your Faith. Be certain that HE is most Affectionate and Merciful for mankind.

144.          Qad nara taqalluba wajhika fee alssamai falanuwalliyannaka qiblatan tardaha fawalli wajhaka shatra almasjidi alharami wahaythu ma kuntum fawalloo wujoohakum shatrahu wainna allatheena ootoo alkitaba layaAAlamoona annahu alhaqqu min rabbihim wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma yaAAmaloona
O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), WE are seeing the turning of your face towards the sky over and over again. Now, WE turn you towards the same direction (Qiblah) which you liked. Turn (your) face towards the Masjid-al-Harām (Ka'bah at Makkah). Now wherever you are, offer your prayer facing towards it (Masjid-al-Harām). These people whom the Scripture was given, know it very well that this (Change of the Qiblah) order is from their Rābb and is Truth, but even then whatever they are doing, Allāh is not unaware of it.

145.           Walain atayta allatheena ootoo alkitaba bikulli ayatin ma tabiAAoo qiblataka wama anta bitabiAAin qiblatahum wama baAAduhum bitabiAAin qiblata baAAdin walaini ittabaAAta ahwaahum min baAAdi ma jaaka mina alAAilmi innaka ithan lamina alththalimeena
Even if you (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) bring any sign (Ayāt) to the people of the Scripture, it is not possible that they start following your direction (Qiblah), and nor it is possible for you to follow their direction (Qiblah), and among them none of the group is ready to follow other's Qiblah (direction), and if you follow their desires after this knowledge, which has been revealed to you, then certainly you will be among the wrong-doers (Zālimūn).

146.          Allatheena ataynahumu alkitaba yaAArifoonahu kama yaAArifoona abnaahum wainna fareeqan minhum layaktumoona alhaqqa wahum yaAAlamoona
Those to whom WE have given the Scripture, they recognize this place (which has been made Qiblah) as they recognize their own children, but one group among them is concealing the truth intentionally.

147.          Alhaqqu min rabbika fala takoonanna mina almumtareena
This is the real truth from your Rābb; therefore you should not be in any doubt about this at all. (R) 1

148.           Walikullin wijhatun huwa muwalleeha faistabiqoo alkhayrati aynama takoonoo yati bikumu Allahu jameeAAan inna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun
Everyone has one direction towards which one turns. So you should advance towards the good deeds. Wherever you will be, Allāh will find you. Nothing is away from HIS Power.

149.           Wamin haythu kharajta fawalli wajhaka shatra almasjidi alharami wainnahu lalhaqqu min rabbika wama Allahu bighafilin AAamma taAAmaloona
From whatever place you pass through, right from there turn your face (at the time of prayer) towards the direction of Masjid-al-Harām (Ka'bah at Makkah), because this is indeed the true decision of your Rābb and Allāh is not unaware of your deeds.

150.          Wamin haythu kharajta fawalli wajhaka shatra almasjidi alharami wahaythu ma kuntum fawalloo wujoohakum shatrahu lialla yakoona lilnnasi AAalaykum hujjatun illa allatheena thalamoo minhum fala takhshawhum waikhshawnee waliotimma niAAmatee AAalaykum walaAAallakum tahtadoona
And from wherever you pass by, (always) turn your face towards the direction of Al-Masjid-al-Harām (Ka'bah at Makkah), and wherever you are, offer your prayer turning your face towards it -- so that the people may have no excuse against you-- yes those who are cruel among them they will never stop talking. So you do not fear them, but fear ME-- and for this reason that I may complete MY Blessing on you and with the hope that by following MY command you will find the path of success in the same way

151.          Kama arsalna feekum rasoolan minkum yatloo AAalaykum ayatina wayuzakkeekum wayuAAallimukumu alkitaba waalhikmata wayuAAallimukum ma lam takoonoo taAAlamoona
As (you benefited from it that) WE sent among you a Rasool (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) of your own, who recites OUR Verses (Al-Qur'ān) to you, purifies your lives, teaches you the Book (Al-Qur'ān) and the Wisdom (Hikmah), and teaches you that which you did not know.

152.          Faothkuroonee athkurkum waoshkuroo lee wala takfurooni
Therefore you remember ME; I will remember you, and be grateful to ME, do not deny MY Blessings. (R) 2

153.          Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo istaAAeenoo bialssabri waalssalati inna Allaha maAAa alssabireena
O people who have brought Faith! seek help with patience and prayer (As-Salāt). Allāh is with those who are patient (As-Sābirin).

154.          Wala taqooloo liman yuqtalu fee sabeeli Allahi amwatun bal ahyaon walakin la tashAAuroona
And those people who are killed in the Path of Allāh do not call them dead, such people are in fact alive, but you do not have sense of their lives.

155.          Walanabluwannakum bishayin mina alkhawfi waaljooAAi wanaqsin mina alamwali waalanfusi waalththamarati wabashshiri alssabireena
And WE certainly will test you by putting you in fear and danger, hunger, loss of wealth and lives, and loss of earnings. In these circumstances those who remain patient,

156.          Allatheena itha asabathum museebatun qaloo inna lillahi wainna ilayhi rajiAAoona
And when any misery comes to them, then they say that "We belong to Allāh Alone and we have to return to Allāh", give them glad tidings.

157.          Olaika AAalayhim salawatun min rabbihim warahmatun waolaika humu almuhtadoona
There will be great blessings (Salawāt) on them from their Rābb; HIS kindness will be all over them and such people are rightly guided.

158.          Inna alssafa waalmarwata min shaAAairi Allahi faman hajja albayta awi iAAtamara fala junaha AAalayhi an yattawwafa bihima waman tatawwaAAa khayran fainna Allaha shakirun AAaleemun
Certainly As-Safā and Al-Marwah (names of mountains in Makkah) are from among the Symbols of Allāh. So whoever performs Hajj or 'Umrah (pilgrimage) to the House of Allāh, (the Ka'bah at Makkah), it is not a sin for him/her to run between both of these mountains and whoever voluntarily does good deeds, Allāh Knows about it and HE is appreciator of it.

159.           Inna allatheena yaktumoona ma anzalna mina albayyinati waalhuda min baAAdi ma bayyannahu lilnnasi fee alkitabi olaika yalAAanuhumu Allahu wayalAAanuhumu allaAAinoona
Those people, who conceal OUR revelation of clear teachings and guidance, although WE have described it in OUR Book for the guidance of all mankind, be certain that Allāh Curses them and those who send curse also send their curses to them.

160.          Illa allatheena taboo waaslahoo wabayyanoo faolaika atoobu AAalayhim waana alttawwabu alrraheemu
Although those who stop from this course of action and correct their misdeeds and whatever they used to conceal start declaring it, I (Allāh, subhaana wa ta'aala) will forgive them and I AM Most Forgiving and Most Merciful.

161.           Inna allatheena kafaroo wamatoo wahum kuffarun olaika AAalayhim laAAnatu Allahi waalmalaikati waalnnasi ajmaAAeena
Those people who have adopted the way of infidelity (Kufr) and die in the state of infidelity (Kufr), there is a Curse of Allāh, and the angels, and the entire mankind on them.

162.           Khalideena feeha la yukhaffafu AAanhumu alAAathabu wala hum yuntharoona
They will remain in the state of this curse forever, neither their punishment will be reduced nor any other relief will be given to them.

163.           Wailahukum ilahun wahidun la ilaha illa huwa alrrahmanu alrraheemu
Your Allāh is only One Allāh (Lā ilāha illa Huwa), there is no deity (ilāha) expect HIM the Most Loving the Most Merciful. (R) 3

164.           Inna fee khalqi alssamawati waalardi waikhtilafi allayli waalnnahari waalfulki allatee tajree fee albahri bima yanfaAAu alnnasa wama anzala Allahu mina alssamai min main faahya bihi alarda baAAda mawtiha wabaththa feeha min kulli dabbatin watasreefi alrriyahi waalssahabi almusakhkhari bayna alssamai waalardi laayatin liqawmin yaAAqiloona
(To recognize this truth if any sign is required then) Those people who have sense there are many signs (Ayāt) for them in the creation of the skies and the earth, in the switching back and forth of the night and the day, in those boats which sail through the river and the sea carrying the profitable things for the mankind, the rain water which Allāh sends down from above then from it gives life to the dead earth and (because of HIS this arrangement) spread all kinds of living creatures in the earth, in the movement of air, and in those clouds which are kept in obedience between the sky and the earth.

165.          Wamina alnnasi man yattakhithu min dooni Allahi andadan yuhibboonahum kahubbi Allahi waallatheena amanoo ashaddu hubban lillahi walaw yara allatheena thalamoo ith yarawna alAAathaba anna alquwwata lillahi jameeAAan waanna Allaha shadeedu alAAathabi
(But in spite of all the clear signs on the Oneness of Allāh, subhaana wa ta'aala) There are a few people who take others equal and rivals to Allāh and they love them as they should love Allāh-- whereas those who have Faith, love Allāh more than anything else-- Would that these violators should realize it today -- what they are going to realize after seeing the punishment in front of them, that all Powers and Authorities belong to Allāh and that Allāh is also Severe in punishment.

166.          Ith tabarraa allatheena ittubiAAoo mina allatheena ittabaAAoo waraawoo alAAathaba wataqattaAAat bihimu alasbabu
When HE will give punishment at that time the situation will be that those same leaders and guides, whom they followed in the world, will show no concern to their followers, but will get punishment and all their bondage and relations will be disconnected.

167.          Waqala allatheena ittabaAAoo law anna lana karratan fanatabarraa minhum kama tabarraoo minna kathalika yureehimu Allahu aAAmalahum hasaratin AAalayhim wama hum bikharijeena mina alnnari
And those people, who used to follow them in this world, will say that -- would that we have been given another chance then as they are disowning us today, we would disown them. Thus Allāh will bring before them their those deeds which they have been doing in the world, in such way that they will squeeze their hands in regret and sorrow but (they) will not find way out from the Fire. (R) 4

168.          Ya ayyuha alnnasu kuloo mimma fee alardi halalan tayyiban wala tattabiAAoo khutuwati alshshaytani innahu lakum AAaduwwun mubeenun
O mankind! Eat that which is lawful and pure on the earth and do not follow the footsteps of Satan (Shaitān). He is your open enemy,

(Satan) Commands you to commit an evil and immorality (Fahshā) and teaches you to say those things associating with the name of Allāh about which you do not have any knowledge (that Allāh, subhaana wa ta'aala, has said so).

170.          Waitha qeela lahumu ittabiAAoo ma anzala Allahu qaloo bal nattabiAAu ma alfayna AAalayhi abaana awa law kana abaohum la yaAAqiloona shayan wala yahtadoona
When it is said to them that follow the commandments that Allāh has sent down, then they reply that we shall follow only that path on which we have found our forefathers. Well if their forefathers have not used their sense and have not found the right-path even then would they keep on following them?

171.          Wamathalu allatheena kafaroo kamathali allathee yanAAiqu bima la yasmaAAu illa duAAaan wanidaan summun bukmun AAumyun fahum la yaAAqiloona
These people who have refused to follow the path of Allāh their condition is like, as shepherd calls the animals and they hear nothing except the sound of calls and cries. They are deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand anything.

172.          Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kuloo min tayyibati ma razaqnakum waoshkuroo lillahi in kuntum iyyahu taAAbudoona
O people who have brought Faith, if in fact you are true worshiper of Allāh Alone then eat freely those lawful things that WE have given you and be thankful to Allāh.

173.          Innama harrama AAalaykumu almaytata waalddama walahma alkhinzeeri wama ohilla bihi lighayri Allahi famani idturra ghayra baghin wala AAadin fala ithma AAalayhi inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
If there is any restriction on you from Allāh -- that is -- do not eat the dead animals (Maytatah), avoid the blood and the flesh of swine (pork), and do not eat any such thing on which someone else’s name has been pronounced except the name of Allāh. Yes if someone is in the situation of helplessness and he/she eats any of these things without that he/she has an intention to break the Law or exceeds the limits of necessity, then there is no sin on him/her, Allāh is Oft-Forgiving and Loving.

Truth is that those people who conceal those commandments which Allāh has revealed in HIS Book and deliver these to gain small worldly benefits; in fact they are filling up their bellies with fire. On the Day of Resurrection Allāh will not speak to them at all, nor will purify them, and there is a painful punishment for them.

175.          Olaika allatheena ishtarawoo alddalalata bialhuda waalAAathaba bialmaghfirati fama asbarahum AAala alnnari
These are those people who have acquired humiliation at the price of Guidance and traded misery for forgiveness. How strange their courage is that they are ready to undergo the punishment of Hell-Fire.

176.          Thalika bianna Allaha nazzala alkitaba bialhaqqi wainna allatheena ikhtalafoo fee alkitabi lafee shiqaqin baAAeedin
This all happened because Allāh had revealed the Book (Al-Qur'ān) with facts and truth but those people who created the differences in the Book they have gone far away from truth in their conflicts. (R) 5

This is not a righteousness (Al-Birr) that you turn your face towards the east or the west, but righteousness is that the person should truthfully believes in Allāh and the Last Day and the Angels and the Books Allāh has revealed and HIS Messengers and in love of Allāh spends the most loved wealth on the relatives and the orphans, helpless (Al-Masākīn) and the travelers, those who ask for help and to set slaves free, establishes prayer (As-Salāt) and pays the poor-dues (Zakāt). And righteous are those people, when they make any promise they fulfill it, and at the time of hardship and an adversity and in the battle of truth and falsehood (they) remain patient (As-Sābirin). These are the upright people and these are the people who fear Allāh (Al-Muttaqūn).

O people who have brought Faith, in case of murder the commandment for getting even (Al-Qisās) has been written for you. If a free man has killed then the same free man shall be punished for it, (if) a slave is a killer then the same slave shall be killed, and (if) a female has committed this crime then that female should be held accountable. Yes if with any killer his brother is willing to show leniency, then blood money (Al-Qisās) should be decided with fairness and it is compulsory for the killer to pay that blood money in a fair way. This is a relief and blessing from your Rābb. Now after this whoever violates the limits, there is a painful punishment for him/her--

179.          Walakum fee alqisasi hayatun ya olee alalbabi laAAallakum tattaqoona
O people with wisdom and understanding, there is a life for you in getting even (Qisās). It is expected that you will avoid violating this law.

It has been made compulsory for you that when the time of death approaches any of you and he/she is leaving wealth behind him/her, then (he/she) should make a will with fairness for the parents and the relatives. This is an obligation on those people who fear Allāh (Al-Muttaqūn).

181.          Faman baddalahu baAAda ma samiAAahu fainnama ithmuhu AAala allatheena yubaddiloonahu inna Allaha sameeAAun AAaleemun
Then those who heard the will and afterward changed it, then the sin of it will be on those who changed it. Allāh Knows and Hears everything.

182.          Faman khafa min moosin janafan aw ithman faaslaha baynahum fala ithma AAalayhi inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
However if one suspects that the person who had made the will has done some unjust intentionally or unintentionally, and then does reformation between the concerned parties, then there is no sin on him/her. Allāh is Most Forgiving and Merciful. (R) 6

183.          Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alssiyamu kama kutiba AAala allatheena min qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoona
O people who have brought Faith, Fasting (As-Saum) has been made compulsory for you, as it had been made compulsory for the followers of Prophets before you. It is expected that with it the self-restraining (Al-Muttaqūn) quality will be developed in you.

The Fasting is for fixed number of days. If anyone among you is sick or on a journey then (he/she) should make up for the same number in other days. And as for those who can Fast (then do not Fast), then they should pay the compensation. The compensation of one Fast is to feed one poor person (Miskīn), and whoever does more good with his/her own consent, then it is better for him/her. But if you understand, then it is best for you to Fast.

Ramadān is the month, in which Qur'ān has been revealed that is a complete guidance for the mankind and it consists of such clear teachings which show the right path and openly distinguish between the Truth and the Falsehood. Therefore from now on whoever meets this month (of Ramadān); it is compulsory for him/her to Fast (Saum) for the whole month. And whoever is ill or on a journey, then (he/she) should make up for the same number of Fasting in other days. Allāh wants to do mercy on you, (HE) does not want to oppress. That is why this way is shown to you so that you can complete the number of Fast and the guidance with which Allāh has blessed you, on this, Glorify and admit the Greatness of Allāh and become grateful.

And O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), If MY servants ask you about ME, then tell them that I AM near to them. When the supplicant call ME, I hear their prayers and answer it. Therefore they should respond to MY call and bring Faith in ME. (You tell them that) Perhaps they may find the right and straight path.

It has been made lawful for you to go to your wives on the nights of Fasting period (As-Saum). They are clothes (Lības) for you and you are clothes for them. Allāh knows that you people had been secretly doing dishonesty to yourselves, but HE forgave your sins and excused you. Now you spend nights with your wives and the joy that Allāh has made lawful for you, seek it! In addition, eat and drink during the nights until you clearly see the white thread of dawn from the black thread of night. Then complete your Fast (Saum) till the nightfall -- abstaining from all these things. And when you are meditating (in I'tikāf) in Masjid (Muslims place of worships) then do not make love with your wives. These are the limits set by Allāh do not go near to them. In this way Allāh Clearly States HIS Commandments (Ayāt) for the mankind, it is expected that they will avoid the wrong behavior (and become Al-Muttaqūn).

O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), people ask you about the different phases of moon. Say: "These (moon phases) are to compute the dates for the people and signs for the pilgrimage (Hajj)." Also tell them: "It is not a deed of piety (Al-Birr) that you enter your homes from the back. In fact the piety is that one should save oneself from the anger of Allāh. Therefore you should enter to your homes through the (proper) door. Although keep fearing Allāh. Perhaps you may become fortunate.

190.           Waqatiloo fee sabeeli Allahi allatheena yuqatiloonakum wala taAAtadoo inna Allaha la yuhibbu almuAAtadeena
And you should fight in the Path of Allāh against those people who fight with you, but do not exceed the limits, as Allāh does not like the oppressors.

Fight against them wherever you encounter with them and expel them from where they have expelled you, although the killing is bad, but mischief (Al-Fitnah) is worse than it (killing). And do not fight with them near the Masjid-al-Harām (Sanctuary at Makkah) unless they fight against you, but when they do not hesitate to fight there, then you should freely kill them because this is the punishment for such infidels (Kafir).

192.           Faini intahaw fainna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
Then if they stop, then beware that Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

You keep fighting against them until there is no mischief (Fitnah) and the Deen (way of life) becomes for Allāh Alone. Then if they surrender, then understand that there is no retaliation except against the wrong doers (Az-Zālimūn).

Therefore whoever retaliates against you, you should also retaliate in the same way against them. Although keep fearing Allāh and remember that Allāh is with those people, who avoid breaking HIS Limits (Al-Muttaqūn).

When you intend to perform Hajj and 'Umrah to seek the pleasure of Allāh then fulfill it, and if you are surrounded somewhere then whatever sacrifice (Hady) is available, offer in the Path of Allāh and do not shave your head until the sacrifice (Hady) reaches its place. But whoever is ill or has some disease in his/her head and for that reason gets his/her head shaved, then he/she should observe Fast (Saum) or give charity (Sadaqah) or offer sacrifice as to ask for forgiveness (Fidyah). Then if you get peace (and you reach Makkah before Hajj), then whoever among you takes the benefit of performing 'Umrah till the time of Hajj comes, he/she should offer a sacrifice (slaughter Hady) according to the means, and if the sacrifice is not available, then should Fast (Saum) for three days during the Hajj time and seven days after returning home, in this way (he/she) should fast for total of ten days. This concession is for those people, whose homes are not near to the Masjid-al-Harām. Refrain from violating these Laws of Allāh and beware that Allāh is Severe in HIS punishment. (R) 8

The months of Hajj are known to all. The person who intends to perform Hajj he/she should be aware that during the Hajj period he/she should not commit any act of sexuality, any immorality, any dispute and fight. And whatever good deeds you will do, it will be in the Knowledge of Allāh. Take the provisions with you for the journey of Hajj, and piety (At-Taqwa) is the best of all the provisions. Therefore O people of understanding! Avoid MY disobedience.

198.           Laysa AAalaykum junahun an tabtaghoo fadlan min rabbikum faitha afadtum min AAarafatin faothkuroo Allaha AAinda almashAAari alharami waothkuroohu kama hadakum wain kuntum min qablihi lamina alddalleena
And during the Hajj if you also seek the bounty of your Rābb, there is no harm (sin) in it. So when you depart from 'Arafāt, then stay near the Mash'ar-il-Harām (Muzdalifah) and remember Allāh and remember as HE has guided you, otherwise before this you were misguided.

199.           Thumma afeedoo min haythu afada alnnasu waistaghfiroo Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
Then you return from where all other people return and seek Forgiveness from Allāh certainly HE is Forgiving and Merciful.

200.           Faitha qadaytum manasikakum faothkuroo Allaha kathikrikum abaakum aw ashadda thikran famina alnnasi man yaqoolu rabbana atina fee alddunya wama lahu fee alakhirati min khalaqin
And when you have fulfilled the basics (Manāsik) of your Hajj, then as you used to remember your forefathers, the same way now remember Allāh even more then that. (But the people who remember Allāh, subhaana wa ta'aala, has much difference) Among them there is one, who says that O my Rābb, give me everything in this world. For such person there is no share in the Hereafter.

201.           Waminhum man yaqoolu rabbana atina fee alddunya hasanatan wafee alakhirati hasanatan waqina AAathaba alnnari
And there is one who says O my Rābb, give me good in this world as well as in the Hereafter, and save me from the suffering of the Hell-Fire.

202.           Olaika lahum naseebun mimma kasaboo waAllahu sareeAAu alhisabi
Such people according to their deeds will get the share (in both places) and Allāh does not take long to settle the accounts.

203.           Waothkuroo Allaha fee ayyamin maAAdoodatin faman taAAajjala fee yawmayni fala ithma AAalayhi waman taakhkhara fala ithma AAalayhi limani ittaqa waittaqoo Allaha waiAAlamoo annakum ilayhi tuhsharoona
These are a few appointed days that you should spend in remembrance of Allāh. Then whoever hastens to leave in two days, nothing is wrong, and whoever returns after staying a little longer even then nothing is wrong. Provided he/she has spent these days with piety-- refrain from disobeying Allāh and know it very well that one-day you are going to be presented before HIM.

204.           Wamina alnnasi man yuAAjibuka qawluhu fee alhayati alddunya wayushhidu Allaha AAala ma fee qalbihi wahuwa aladdu alkhisami
Among the people there is one whose speech delights you in this worldly life, and on his noble intention he calls Allāh as a witness over and again, but in fact he is the worst enemy of the Truth.

205.           Waitha tawalla saAAa fee alardi liyufsida feeha wayuhlika alhartha waalnnasla waAllahu la yuhibbu alfasada
When he gains power then all his struggle on the land is to spread mischief, to plunder the crops and destroy the mankind-- although Allāh (WHOM he was making a witness) does not like mischief at all--

206.           Waitha qeela lahu ittaqi Allaha akhathathu alAAizzatu bialithmi fahasbuhu jahannamu walabisa almihadu
And when it is said to him: "Fear Allāh", then a thought of his own dignity sticks him on the sin. For such person only the Hell is enough and it is a worst place.

207.           Wamina alnnasi man yashree nafsahu ibtighaa mardati Allahi waAllahu raoofun bialAAibadi
On the other side among the mankind there is one who devotes his life to seek the pleasure of Allāh and Allāh is very kind for such servants.

208.           Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo odkhuloo fee alssilmi kaffatan wala tattabiAAoo khutuwati alshshaytani innahu lakum AAaduwwun mubeenun
O who brought Faith; you enter completely into Islām and do not follow Satan (Shaitān) that he is your declared enemy.

209.           Fain zalaltum min baAAdi ma jaatkumu albayyinatu faiAAlamoo anna Allaha AAazeezun hakeemun
The plain and clear guidance that has come to you, if after receiving this you deviated, then know it well that Allāh has Control over everything and is All Wise.

210.           Hal yanthuroona illa an yatiyahumu Allahu fee thulalin mina alghamami waalmalaikatu waqudiya alamru waila Allahi turjaAAu alomooru
(After all these advises and guidance if the people do not follow the right path then) Are they awaiting for this that Allāh HIMSELF comes down to them in the shadows of clouds accompanying the groups of Angels and decision should be made? Eventually all the matters are going to be presented before Allāh. (R) 9

211.           Sal banee israeela kam ataynahum min ayatin bayyinatin waman yubaddil niAAmata Allahi min baAAdi ma jaathu fainna Allaha shadeedu alAAiqabi
Ask the Children of Israel how plain and clear signs (Ayāt) WE have shown to them (and then also tell them that) after receiving the revelation from Allāh the nation who changes it with worthless things (renounces the Deen of Allāh and accepts Kufr) then how severely Allāh punishes it.

212.           Zuyyina lillatheena kafaroo alhayatu alddunya wayaskharoona mina allatheena amanoo waallatheena ittaqaw fawqahum yawma alqiyamati waAllahu yarzuqu man yashao bighayri hisabin
The worldly life has been made attractive and charming for those people who have adopted the path of infidelity (Kufr).
Such people mock at those who have adopted the path of Faith, but on the Day of Judgment the pious people will be on the highest place as compare to them. As for the worldly provisions, Allāh has the control to give without any measure to whom HE wants.

213.           Kana alnnasu ommatan wahidatan fabaAAatha Allahu alnnabiyyeena mubashshireena wamunthireena waanzala maAAahumu alkitaba bialhaqqi liyahkuma bayna alnnasi feema ikhtalafoo feehi wama ikhtalafa feehi illa allatheena ootoohu min baAAdi ma jaathumu albayyinatu baghyan baynahum fahada Allahu allatheena amanoo lima ikhtalafoo feehi mina alhaqqi biithnihi waAllahu yahdee man yashao ila siratin mustaqeemin
In the beginning all the people were on the same path (Deen)
. (Then this situation did not remain the same and conflicts inflamed) Then Allāh sent Prophets who were to give glad tidings for good deeds and to warn from the results of bad deeds, and revealed a Book in truth with them in order to settle the disputes about the truth that had been appeared among the people. (And it was not the reason of their differences that in the beginning the truth was not given to them) Absolutely not, those people differed whom the knowledge of truth had been given. After receiving the clear guidance they merely left the truth aside and invented different ways so that they can oppress one another-- so those people who brought Faith in Prophets -- Allāh showed them the right Path by HIS Leave, in which they differed. Allāh, whom HE wills, guides to the Right Path.

Then do you think that you will be entered into the Paradise just for nothing (like this), although you have not gone through all that (trials) from which the believers before you have gone through?
They were afflicted (with severe poverty), ailments came, were so shaken, that even the Prophet of the time and his companions cried out when the Help of Allāh will come? -- (At that time satisfaction was given that) Yes! The Help of Allāh is near.

The people ask -- what shall we spend? Tell them that whatever they spend (shall) spend on (your) parents, relatives, orphans, and the poor and needy (Al-Masākīn), and the wayfarers. And whatever good you will do, Allāh will be aware of it
.

You have been commanded for a war (Jihād) and you do not like it-- it may be that you dislike one thing and the same thing might be good for you. And it could be that you like one thing and the same might be bad for you. Allāh knows, you do not know. (R) 10

The people ask: "How is fighting in the Sacred Month?" Say: "Fighting is very bad in it, but to stop people from the Path of Allāh and to deny Allāh and to close the doors of Masjid-al-Harām on the worshipers of Allāh and to expel the residents of Al-Harām are more evil offences in the Sight of Allāh -- and mischief (Al-Fitnah) is worse than killing. They will keep fighting you until they turn you back from your Deen (the way of life) if it is in their power. (And understand it very well) Whoever among you will turn back from his/her Deen (the Way of Life) and dies as an infidel (Kafir), his/her deeds will be wasted both in this world as well as in the Hereafter. All such people are the dwellers of the Hell-Fire and will stay in Hell forever.

218.           Inna allatheena amanoo waallatheena hajaroo wajahadoo fee sabeeli Allahi olaika yarjoona rahmata Allahi waAllahu ghafoorun raheemun
On the other hand those people who have brought Faith and left their homes for the sake of Allāh and (did Jihad) exerted in the Path of Allāh they are the right candidates for the Mercy of Allāh and Allāh is going to Forgive their mistakes and shower HIS Mercy on them.

They ask: "What is the commandment for alcohol/intoxicants and gambling?" Say: "There is a great harm in both of these things." Although there are some benefits in it for the people, but sin of these things is far greater than their benefits. They ask: "What shall we spend in the Path of Allāh"? Say: "Whatever is in excess of your need". In this way Allāh clearly states commandments for you

Perhaps you may think about both, this world as well as the Hereafter. They ask, "How shall we deal with the orphans"? Say, "Adopt the way that is good for them". If you combine your expenses and living with them, then there is no harm in it. After all they are your brothers/sisters. Allāh knows both very well, the wrong doers and good doers. (If) Allāh desired HE could be harder on you in this matter, but Allāh is All Powerful as well as All Wise.

You never marry the mushrik women (idolatresses, Al-Mushrikāt), until they bring Faith. A believer slave woman is better than a noble mushrik woman (Mushrikah, idolatress), even though you like her very much. And never marry your women to mushrik men (Al-Mushrikūn, idolater) until they bring Faith. A believer slave man is better than a noble mushrik man (Al-Mushrikūn, idolater), even though you like him very much. These people invite you to the Fire and Allāh with HIS Leave invites you towards the Paradise and Forgiveness, and HE clearly states HIS orders before the people, it is expected that they will learn a lesson and will embrace the advice. (R) 11

They ask: "What is the commandment for menstruation (women's monthly course)?" Say: "That is a state of impurity (an Adha)." In this remain separated from the women and do not go near them (do not make love with them), until they are purified and clean. And when they purified themselves, then go to them as Allāh has commanded you. Allāh likes those people who abstain from evil and adopt the piety.

Your wives are your places of cultivation, you have the right, whatever way you want, go to your place of cultivation, but worry about your future and guard yourself from the displeasure of Allāh. Know it well that one day you have to meet HIM and O Prophet (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), whoever accept your guidance give them good news (of true success and blessing).

224.           Wala tajAAaloo Allaha AAurdatan liaymanikum an tabarroo watattaqoo watuslihoo bayna alnnasi waAllahu sameeAAun AAaleemun
Do not use the name of Allāh for such sworn statements, for which you intend to keep back from good deeds and piety and welfare of servants of Allāh. Allāh is Hearing all your conversation and Knows everything.

225.           La yuakhithukumu Allahu biallaghwi fee aymanikum walakin yuakhithukum bima kasabat quloobukum waAllahu ghafoorun haleemun
Allāh does not hold you accountable for the meaningless and unintentional promises you make, but the statement you sworn upon with true heart, HE will surely hold you accountable for that. Allāh is Oft-Forgiving and Forbearing.

226.           Lillatheena yuloona min nisaihim tarabbusu arbaAAati ashhurin fain faoo fainna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
Those people, who take an oath not to have relationship with their wives, they have time period for four months
. If they reinstated, then Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

And if they have intended to divorce then (they) should know that Allāh Hears and Knows everything.

The women who are divorced they should keep themselves awaiting for three menstrual periods, and it is not lawful for them to conceal what Allāh has created in their wombs. They must not do this -- if they believe in Allāh and the Last Day. If their husbands incline to reinstate, then they have the right to take them back as their wives during this waiting period. Women also have the same reasonable rights, as men have over them. However men have one rank higher over them. And above all Allāh is present the Authoritative and All Wise. (R) 12

The divorce is twice. Then either you keep the woman in a reasonable way or let her go with kindness. And while seeing her off it is not lawful for you to take something back from that which you have given to her. Although there is an exception to it that if spouses fear that they will not be able to keep themselves within the limits of Allāh. In that situation if you have fear that they both will not remain within the limits of Allāh then there is no harm for settling this matter between them that woman gets separation by giving some compensation to her husband. These are the limits set by Allāh do not violate them. And those people who violate the limits of Allāh they are the cruel (Zālimūn).

Then if (after pronouncing divorce twice if husband pronounce it third time to his wife) divorced (her), then that woman will not remain lawful to him, unless she marry with some other man and he divorces her (willingly). Then if first husband and this woman think that they will remain with in the limits of Allāh then for them there is no sin to reunite with each other. These are the limits set by Allāh which HE is clarifying for the guidance of those people who (know the result of breaking HIS limits) have the knowledge.

And when you divorce your women and they are about to complete the term of their prescribed period, then either make them to stay with a fair way or let them go in a reasonable way. Do not retain them merely to distress (them) that it will be a violation and whoever will do so, in fact he will do unjust to his own self. Do not make fun of the Verses (Laws) of Allāh. Do not forget that Allāh has Blessed you with what a great favor. HE advises you that the Book (Al-Qur'ān) and Wisdom (Al-Hikmah) HE has revealed to you, pay due respect to it. Fear Allāh and understand it well that Allāh has the knowledge of everything. (R) 13

When you divorced your women and they complete their prescribed period, then do not hinder in it that they should marry with their proposed husbands when they mutually agree to marry each other in a lawful way. You are advised never do such thing, if you are going to bring Faith in Allāh and the Last Day. The most moral and purer way for you is to abstain from it. Allāh knows, you do not know.

The fathers who want their children shall nurse for complete suckling period (two whole years) then mothers shall breast-feed their children for complete two years. In this case the father of the child shall have to give them food and clothing in a fair way. But no one should be burdened more than what one can bear. Neither a mother should be troubled because of her child, and nor a father should be troubled because of his child-- as the feeding woman has this right on the father of the child, same is on his heirs-- But there is no sin if parties decide on weaning (stop suckling) by mutual consent and consultation. And if you intent to get your offspring suckle from some wet nurses then there is no harm in it -- provided whatever price you agreed, pay it in a fair way. Fear Allāh and know it that whatever you do, Allāh observes all.

Among you those who die, if they leave their wives behind them, then they (their wives) should detain themselves for four months and ten days. And when their term is complete, then they have the right to do in an honorable way whatever they want for themselves. There is no responsibility on you for it. Allāh is aware of all of your deeds.

During their waiting periods whether you make indirect marriage proposal to these widows women, or you keep it hidden in your hearts, in both ways there is no sin. Allāh knows that you will definitely think about them. But look, do not make any secret contract or promise. If you have to say anything then do it in a fair way. And do not decide to make marriage contract until the prescribed waiting term is over. Understand it well that Allāh knows even the secrets of your hearts. So fear HIM and also know it that Allāh is Forbearing and Forgiving. (R) 14

There is no sin on you if you divorce your wives before you touch them or determining their Dowry (Mahr). In this case something must be given to them. The wealthy man (should give) according to his means and the poor man should pay fairly according to his means. This is an obligation on the righteous people.

And if you have divorced before you touched them, but the dowry has been determined, then in this situation you would have to pay half of the dowry. This is another thing that if a woman shows leniency (and do not take the dowry) or that man, in whose hands is the marriage tie, shows the leniency (and pay full dowry), and you (men) act with kindness, then it is closer to the piety (At-Taqwa). Do not forget the kindness in your mutual dealings. Allāh is Watching over your deeds.

Among you those people who die and are leaving wives behind them, they should make a will in favor of their wives that they (the wives) should get provisions for one full year and they should not be expelled from homes. Then if they (the wives) leave themselves, and whatever they do for themselves in honorable way then there is no responsibility on you for it, Allāh has Power over everything and All Wise.

Then have you thought about that matter which the chiefs of the Israelites (Children of Israel) had faced after Mūsa? They said to their Prophet: "Appoint a king for us so that we fight in the Path of Allāh." The Prophet asked: "Would it not be that you are ordered to fight and you do not fight?" They said: "How it could be possible that we do not fight for the Cause of Allāh while we have been driven out of our homes and our children have been separated from us?" But when they were ordered to fight except a few they all turned their backs, and Allāh Knows each and everyone of these cruel (Zālimūn).

Their Prophet (Samuel) said to them that Allāh has appointed Talūt (Saul) to be your king. After hearing this they said: "What right he has to become our king? As compare to him we have better right for the kingship. He is not a rich person." The Prophet replied: "Allāh has chosen him over you and he has been given plenty of abilities, knowledge and height, and Allāh has the power to grant HIS Kingdom whom HE wants, Allāh is Boundless and everything is in HIS Knowledge."

With this their Prophet (Samuel) told them:"The sign of his appointment as a king from Allāh is that during his rule you will get the box back, in which there is peace of mind (Sakinah) for you from your Rābb, which has the sacred residue left by the family of Mūsa and family of Hārūn, and which has been carried by the angels at this time. If you are true believers, then it is a great sign for you. (R) 16

249.           Falamma fasala talootu bialjunoodi qala inna Allaha mubtaleekum binaharin faman shariba minhu falaysa minnee waman lam yatAAamhu fainnahu minnee illa mani ightarafa ghurfatan biyadihi fashariboo minhu illa qaleelan minhum falamma jawazahu huwa waallatheena amanoo maAAahu qaloo la taqata lana alyawma bijaloota wajunoodihi qala allatheena yathunnoona annahum mulaqoo Allahi kam min fiatin qaleelatin ghalabat fiatan katheeratan biithni Allahi waAllahu maAAa alssabireena
And when Talūt left with his army then he said:"You are going to be tested by Allāh on a river. Whoever will drink its water, he is not my companion. My companion is the one who does not satisfy his thirst from it. Yes, someone may drink a sip or so from it". But except a small group they all saturated from this river. And when Talūt and his Muslim companions advanced after crossing the river, they said to Talūt that today we do not have power to face the Jalūt and his armies. But those people who understood that one day they have to meet with their Allāh they said: "It has happened very often that a small group by the Leave of Allāh has captured the powerful group. Allāh is companion of those who are patient (As-Sābirin)."

250.           Walamma barazoo lijaloota wajunoodihi qaloo rabbana afrigh AAalayna sabran wathabbit aqdamana waonsurna AAala alqawmi alkafireena
And when they advanced to face Jalūt and his forces, they prayed: "O our Rābb, bless us with patience, make our footing firm and grant us victory over this group of infidels (Kafir)."

251.           Fahazamoohum biithni Allahi waqatala dawoodu jaloota waatahu Allahu almulka waalhikmata waAAallamahu mimma yashao walawla dafAAu Allahi alnnasa baAAdahum bibaAAdin lafasadati alardu walakinna Allaha thoo fadlin AAala alAAalameena
Consequently, with the Leave of Allāh they defeated them and Dawūd killed Jalūt and Allāh blessed him with kingdom and wisdom (Al-Hikmah) and of whatever things HE wanted gave him the knowledge-- if Allāh had not been replacing one group of people by another group then there would be disorder on the earth, but it is a great blessing of Allāh on the people of the world (that in this way HE keeps repelling the disorder).

252.           Tilka ayatu Allahi natlooha AAalayka bialhaqqi wainnaka lamina almursaleena
These are the Verses of Allāh which WE are conveying to you (Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) accurately, and O Muhammad, sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam; you are surely from among those people who have been sent as Rasools.
